#22 CSUN Returns Home on Saturday to Take on #18 UCSD

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---No. 22 CSUN Water Polo (16-11, 0-5 Big West) returns to Matador Pool on Saturday afternoon to square off with No. 18 UC San Diego in a Big West match. Start time is set for noon. Live stats will be provided for the match.
LAST TIME OUT
CSUN dropped an 19-8 decision at sixth-ranked UC Irvine last Saturday to conclude the road portion of its schedule. Despite the final score, the Matadors kept pace with the Anteaters throughout the first half. CSUN led 3-1 after eight minutes and was within 6-5 at halftime. UCI though took control in the second half with the Anteaters pulling away with a 6-0 fourth period.
Dorottya Telek completed a hat trick in the match while she registered six field blocks. Helena Sandhagen chipped in with two goals and Shelby Hovanesian had three assists. Meghan Lopez recorded 11 toal saves in front of the cage.
MATADOR HEADLINES
Heading into their final two matches of the regular season, the Matadors sit in a seventh-place tie in The Big West standings with Cal State Fullerton (0-5). The Matadors are two games back of fifth, currently occupied by UC San Diego. CSUN wraps up the regular year next Saturday (April 22) in a home matchup with Cal State Fullerton.
Dorottya Telek is within range of becoming the first Matador player to score 100 goals in a season. She enters this week with a Big West-leading 95 goals. In the conference, Telek is also first in the league in points (105) and second in steals (42).
Anna Pal comes into the weekend ranked second in The Big West in assists (38), fifth in steals (32) and sixth in points (66) to go with 28 goals on the year. Also on The Big West leaderboards, Shelby Hovanesian is tied for seventh place in assists with 24 while Valeria Martinez is seventh on the steals list with 29. Hovaensian has already scored a career-high 31 goals on the season, which is second-highest on the team. In goal, Meghan Lopez remains The Big West leader in saves with 253.
In the Matador record books, Telek has moved into seventh place all-time in CSUNhistory with 172 career goals. WIth five more tallies this season, Telek would catch Chari Christopher (2003-05) for sixth place in team history. Telek, who already broke the school's single-season goal record on March 7, has accumulated the second-most exclusions drawn in a single year with 92 this season.
SERIES HISTORY
UC San Diego holds a slim 13-12 edge over CSUN in the all-time series. The Tritons have won the last eight meetings in the series with the Matadors' last win coming on March 12, 2015, by an 8-4 score. CSUN fell 11-5 to UCSD last season in La Jolla. Over the teams' 25 all-time matches, the Matadors have only hosted the Tritons twice with UC San Diego coming out on top in both of those contests.
SCOUTING UC SAN DIEGO
The Tritons are 10-16 overall and 2-3 in Big West play. In last week's action, UCSD earned a 10-9 win over 10th-ranked UC Davis on the road. The team's other Big West win this season came against Cal State Fullerton on March 17 by a 19-7 decision. The Tritons are 1-3 in true road games this season with an overall 8-11 mark away from home.
Two Tritons appear in The Big West's top-10 list in goals scored this season with Kendall Thomas in fifth place (48 goals) and Caroline Christl in seventh place (46 goals).
