Matadors Host Cal State Fullerton on Senior Day

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---No. 23 CSUN Water polo wraps up the regular season with a Senior Day matchup with Cal State Fullerton on Saturday at noon. The Matadors will honor senior Lacey Hall prior to the start of the match.
LAST TIME OUT
The Matadors fell to 16-12 overall and 0-6 in Big West play with a 15-8 loss to No. 18 UC San Diego. CSUN trailed 5-2 after one period and by an 8-5 margin after two periods, but the Tritons pulled away down the stretch. UCSD outscored CSUN 4-1 in the final eight minutes to secure a victory.
The trio of Dorottya Telek, Helena Sandhagen and Nicole Thomas each scored two goals apiece while Tatum Scarry had three assists. Meghan Lopez finished with 14 saves to go with two steals and one assist in front of the cage.
SENIOR SALUTE
Lacey Hall will be the lone senior honored prior to Saturday's home finale against Cal State Fullerton. Hall has played in 56 career matches with the Matadors since the 2020 season. She has tallied 26 points, 26 steals and 20 assists to go with six goals. This season, Hall has registered a career-high 15 steals while totaling eight assists and three field blocks.
In addition her work in the pool, Hall is the president of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee at CSUN. She has earned academic honors from The Big West and the Asssociation of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches as a member of the Matadors.

MATADORS HEADLINES
CSUN seeks to secure a seventh seed in next week's Big West Water Polo Championship held at UC Santa Barbara from Apr. 28-30. The winner of Saturday's game between the Matadors and the Titans at Matador Pool will determine the seventh seed while the loser drops to the eighth seed. CSUN can face either UC Irvine, Long Beach State or Hawai'i in the first round of the conference tournament.
Dorottya Telek is nearing reaching the 100-goal mark for a single season. The Hungarian native has 97 goals thus far this year, which leads The Big West by a 26-goal margin. Telek also leads the conference in points (107) while she ranks second in steals (42). On the year, Telek is shooting 53.0 percent from the field.Â
Other Big West leaders include Meghan Lopez who leads the field in saves (267). Anna Pal is ranked second in the conference in assists (28), sixth in points (66) and sixth in steals (35). Shelby Hovanesian is sixth in the league in assists (26) and 10th in points (58) to go with 32 goals.
SERIES HISTORY
CSUN and Cal State Fullerton will play for the first-ever time in water polo on Saturday. The Titans are completing their first collegiate season of women's water polo in 2023.
SCOUTING CAL STATE FULLERTON
The Titans are 11-18 overall and 0-6 in their inaugural season. Fullerton dropped a 16-8 decision to UC Santa Barbara in last week's action. The team has lost three-straight games after picking up a win over Cal State East Bay on March 30.
Freshman Gabrielle Zaretskiy is fourth in The Big West in goals scored with 64 this season while Mia Solorzano is in ninth place with 46 goals. Kieran Scout Bates has also surpassed the 30-goal mark on the year with 34 tallies. In front of the cage, Haden Skye Bates has racked up 194 saves to go with a 12.27 goals-against-average.Â
