A Myka Sutherlin pitch hit Shaylan Whatman to begin the top of the first. Mikayla Carman's sac bunt advanced Whatman to second. Sutherlin struck out Kaylee Escutia and Maiya Alemania to end the inning.
Alexa Neil led off the bottom of the first with an opposite field double to left center. Hannah Becerra's sacrifice moved Neil to third. Jessi Alcaia walked to give the Titans runners on the corners. Alcaia stole second. A Lauryn Carranco pitch hit Daisy Munoz to load the bases. Evelyn Sabian fouled to first. Neil scored on a wild pitch to open the Cal State Fullerton scoring. Peyton Toto worked out a walk to re-load the bases. Carranco struck out Kika Ramirez looking to end the inning.
Alexa Landeros began the CSUN second with a single up the middle. Jordan Kaeka successfully sacrificed Landeros to second. Then, Sutherlin struck out Alexis Garcia before getting Sydney Freijanes to hit a grounder back to her in the circle for the final out.
Alcala's sixth home run of the season with one out in the third increased the Titans' lead to 2-0.
Escutia singled to lead off the Matadors' fourth. Escutia stole her second base of the season. Alemania grounded out to third, but Escutia could not advance on the play. Then, Landeros singled to center, allowing Escutia to reach third. Pinch hitter Gizella Vargas Sandoval walked on four pitches to load the bases. A second pinch hitter, Kylie Galindo, popped out to left. Freijanes lined out to right for the third out.
Ramirez doubled to open the Titans' fourth. Carranco struck out Baily Wallace looking. Anaiya Mitchell grounded out back to Carranco in the circle for the second out. Neil also grounded out to Carranco to keep the game 2-0.
A pitch hit Carys Murakami to start the top of the fifth. Whatman tied the game with her third home run of the year, a two-run opposite field blast to right center. Carman singled down the left field line. Alemania sent the Matadors into the lead with an opposite field double to right center that plated Carman. Haley Rainey relieved Sutherlin. Landeros grounded out to second, allowing Alemania to head to third. Vargas Sandoval's infield single drove in Alemania for a 4-2 score. Galindo grounded out to first to end the inning.
Whatman doubled with two outs in the top of the sixth. Carman beat out an infield dribble for a single. Whatman was aggressive on the play, scoring from second on the play to increase the lead to three.
Carranco retired the final 12 Titans' batters of the game after issuing Ramirez's double in the fourth. The freshman righthander needed 100 pitches (62 for strikes) to record her second consecutive, complete game victory. She struck out five and walked two while giving up four hits.
Landeros led the Matadors at the plate. She went 3-for-4, including a triple in the seventh. Whatman was 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Carman went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
The victory broke an eight-game CSUN losing streak to Cal State Fullerton. The last time the Matadors defeated the Titans was on Apr. 5, 2019, when CSUN defeated Cal State Fullerton 5-2 in Fullerton.
