GAME 1
Cal State Fullerton defeated CSUN 7-1 to begin the day.
Alexa Neil led off the bottom of the first by working out a walk against CSUN starter Riley Wickum. With two outs, Daisy Munoz singled to center. Hannah Becerra worked the count to 3-2 against Wickum before CSUN's freshman righty struck her out with a rise ball.
Wickum hit Sophia Guevara to begin the second. Peyton Toto's sacrifice bunt advanced Guevara to second. Maggie Paulovich ran for Toto. Evelyn Sabian grounded out to short, which pushed Paulovich up a base. Analya Mitchell's single through the right side drove in Paulovich to give the Titans the lead. Mitchell stole second before heading to third on a Neil infield single. Wickum struck out Bailey Wallace as the score remained 1-0.
Carys Murakami doubled with two outs in the third. Myka Sutherlin, who took the loss in game one Friday night, walked Shaylan Whatman. Mikayla Carman grounded into a 6-4 fielder's choice for the final out.
Jessi Alcala singled to open the bottom of the third. Munoz beat out a bunt attempt back to Wickum for a single as Alcala took second. Becerra reached on an error as she attempted to sacrifice the runners up a base. With the bases loaded, Guevara's blooper to right scored Alcala to keep the bases loaded. Pinch hitter Ashleigh Dendas was hit by a Wickum pitch on a 1-2 count to score the second run of the inning.
Allie Gardinerrelieved Wickum. After a nine-pitch at-bat, Sabian grounded into a 4-2 fielder's choice, with Becerra being thrown out at the plate. Pinch hitter Deshea Hill was hit by the first Gardiner pitch she saw, allowing the game's fourth run to score. Up in the count 0-2 on Neil, a Gardiner wild pitch created a 5-0 score. Neil lined into a 4-6 double play on the next pitch to get the Matadors out of the third.
With two outs in the top of the fourth, Alexa Landeros reached on an error. Then, Kylie Galindo singled, but Sutherlin got a ground out to end the frame.
Alcala tripled with one out in the bottom of the fourth. Munoz followed with a sac fly to center to drive in Alcala. Toto homered to left to begin the bottom of the fifth for what proved to be the final Titans' run.
Whatman got the Matadors on the board in the seventh with a two-out single that scored Raegan Jackson. Whatman posted two of the five CSUN hits.
Sutherlin struck out seven in 4.2 innings to earn the win. She gave way to Raci Miranda in the fifth. Miranda struck out a pair to finish the game. Alcala was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Munoz was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
GAME 2
Sutherlin threw a five-inning no-hitter as the Titans (21-16, 8-4 Big West) handed the Matadors an 8-0 loss in the nightcap.
Starting for the third time in the series, Sutherlin struck out the side in the first and retired the first 12 Matadors before walking Maiya Alemania to lead off the fifth. Sutherlin ended the game with nine strikeouts, 20 for the weekend, and her 11th win.
Alcala and Munoz worked out back-to-back walks off CSUN starter Alexis Martinez with two outs in the bottom of the first. Then, Becerra smacked her seventh home run of the year to give the Titans a 3-0 lead.
Martinez walked Toto to lead off the second. Lauryn Carranco relieved Martinez. Sabian popped up to Galindo behind the dish attempting to bunt Toto over. Mitchell's opposite field single to left advanced Toto to third. Mitchell stole second to give the Titans two runners in scoring position. Neil doubled in both runners with a shot to left center. Wallace followed with a double to center to score Neil. Munoz added a two-out single to score Wallace. Isabella Alonso relieved Carranco and got the final out of the inning for CSUN.
