SACRAMENTO, Calif.—CSUN began competition at the NCAA West Regional Wednesday night at Sacramento State's Hornet Stadium.
David Phillips, Jr. ran 21.07 in the first round of the 200m at the NCAA West Regional Wednesday night at the regional. He did not advance to Friday's second round, as he came in 30th in the field of 48. With the top 24 moving on, Phillips, Jr. improved on his 32nd seed with which he entered the race.
ACCORDING TO ASSISTANT COACH JACOB YOWELL
"It wasn't enough to advance, but DJ finished higher than where he came in. He executed well, especially for being in lane one. DJ came on strong late, and he just ran out of real estate to get a top-three finish and an auto qualifier. The average follower will see that he didn't run his PR and not realize the success he had this season. On any given meet day this year, DJ was better than the career bests he had coming into the year. It speaks to the hard work and dedication to being the best athlete, teammate, leader, and example he could be for this program."
"The week is not over; he has another shot on Friday along with his teammates to make the NCAA Championships in the 4x100m relay. After that, we have time to recover, refocus, and finish the job."

CSUN received the final berth into the field of 24 for the 4x100m. The quarterfinals are Friday at 5 p.m.
