Women's Soccer Visits LMU on Thursday Before Hosting Pepperdine Sunday Night

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Women's Soccer (0-1-1) opens up a two-match week on Thursday with a road test at LMU at 7 p.m. The Matadors then return home for a clash with Pepperdine on Sunday night at 7 p.m.
HOW TO FOLLOW
Both of CSUN's matches this week will be broadcast on ESPN+. Ghizal Hasan will call the action for Sunday's home match against Pepperdine. All video and stat links can be found at GoMatadors.com.
LAST WEEK'S MATCHES
CSUN opened the 2023 season with a tough 1-0 loss to Portland at Matador Soccer Field last Thursday. The Pilots capitalized off a CSUN turnover to score the game's only goal in the 13th minute. CSUN held Portland, an NCAA Tournament team last season, to just two shots over the final 75 minutes.
The Matadors would pick up their first shutout of the season last Sunday afternoon in a 0-0 draw at UNLV. Goalkeeper Hayden Mauldin racked up six saves in picking her first clean sheet of 2023. CSUN was outshot 12-8 in the contest but would put half of its shots on goal.
MATADOR HEADLINES
CSUN's first shutout of the season on Sunday was the team's first on the road since Sept. 22, 2019, in a 2-0 victory at Grand Canyon. The Matadors would also play in their first scoreless draw since Sept. 6, 2019, against Kansas State.
Hayden Mauldin's shutout at UNLV was the second of her two-year CSUN career. Through two matches this season, Mauldin has allowed just one goal in 180 minutes of action. As a team, CSUN has not allowed any scoring in the second half thus far on the campaign.
After week one, six Matadors have made already their debut with the program. Among the newcomers, freshman defender Pauline Gericke has seen the most minutes on the field (137). Also earning action last week were Paige Califf, Kaylee Gutierrez, Daisy Torres, Braedyn Kincade and Savannah Estrada.
SERIES HISTORY
LMU leads CSUN 12-4 in the all-time series with the Lions winning the last two meetings. LMU prevailed at Matador Soccer Field last season by a 1-0 margin, scoring the deciding goal in the 71st minute. Prior to last season, the teams had not played in eight seasons. CSUN is 1-7 all-time at LMU with its only win coming in 2011 in a 3-0 triumph.
Pepperdine holds a 10-1-3 edge over CSUN in the all-time series. CSUN's only win came in 2010 in a 2-1 victory at Matador Soccer Field. The Waves won by an 8-0 margin last season in Malibu. Prior to that meeting, each of the previous four matches between the two teams were either one-goal decisions or a draw.
SCOUTING LMU
The Lions (0-2-0) opened the campaign with a 2-0 defeat at UC Santa Barbara before dropping a 1-0 decision to Georgetown. Last season, LMU finished with a 3-8-6 overall record and 1-8-0 mark in the West Coast Conference. After finishing ninth in the league last season, LMU was selected to finish eighth in the WCC Preseason Coaches Poll. An All-WCC Honorable Mention in 2022, Alice Santen led the team with seven points to go with three goals while Jenessa Graves had three goals and six points last season.
SCOUTING PEPPERDINE
The Waves (0-0-2) would earn a 1-1 draw with Georgetown in their season opener and pick up a 2-2 tie against Michigan to close last week's action. Pepperdine finished last season with a 9-4-5 overall record and 3-3-3 mark in the WCC. The team was picked to finish third in the league in this season's Preseason Coaches Poll. The Waves placed two on the All-WCC Preseason Team in Tatum Wynalda and Tori Waldeck. Last season, Wynalda posted eight goals while Waldeck finished with four goals and three assists.
