SEATTLE, Wash.---CSUN Women's Soccer (0-4-1) dropped a 3-0 decision at Seattle U on Thursday night at Championship Field. The Redhawks scored all three of their goals in the second half to take the match.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
The teams played an even first half with CSUN holding a narrow 8-7 edge in shot attempts. Cailey Jackson put the Matadors' first shot on goal in the ninth minute with a bouncing shot that was saved. Hayden Mauldin made a save of her own going to her left on a shot from Nina Prusa in the 11th minute. CSUN's goalkeeper made another terrific save in the 38th minute when she stopped an 18-yard attempt from Sarah Creighton with a one-handed deflection. Brooke Mobeck would have the Matadors' best attempt of the night on a deep shot from near 25 yards that hit the crossbar.
Â
Seattle U went on the attack to start the second half, generating three corner kicks in the first two-plus minutes followed by a shot on goal from Kait Raffensperger. CSUN would withstand another corner kick but a costly handball in its own box moments later would begin to turn the tide of the contest. Brooke Wilson was awarded the penalty kick and found the top of the net to put the Redhawks on top. Seattle U though continued to apply the pressure, leading to a pair of goals within a 3:17 span beginning in the 74th minute. Kailee Wilson set up Savannah Singleton for a goal then Wilson hit the net herself courtesy of a Creighton pass for a 3-0 lead. CSUN had five shot attempts in the second half but each was off target.
Â
NOTES OF THE GAME
"Credit to Seattle U for the result. We have some intangible things we need to sort out as a team. There is no excuse for the result and I won't make any. We have to get better and we will sleep on it and reset tomorrow. Thank you to the fans that traveled and took time to watch us play. Thank you to all that are supporting our program."
