CSUN Returns Home to Host Idaho, #4 UCLA

GAME NOTES
NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Women's Soccer returns to Matador Soccer Field this week for a pair home contests. The Matadors square off with Idaho on Thursday at 5 p.m. before hosting defending national champion and fourth-ranked UCLA on Sunday at 4 p.m.
Following Thursday's match with Idaho, the CSUN men's soccer team will host UNLV at 7:30 p.m. to conclude a CSUN Soccer doubleheader. CSUN will host a Matador Red Game on Sunday against UCLA with fans receiving free admission when wearing a red shirt.
HOW TO FOLLOW
Both home matches will be broadcast on ESPN+ with Ghizal Hasan on the call. Live video and live stat links can be found at GoMatadors.com.
LAST WEEK'S MATCHES
CSUN dropped two 3-0 decisions on the road last week. The Matadors would fall to Seattle U and Washington in the two contests with all six goals scored after halftime.
Hayden Mauldin gave the Matadors a pair of strong showings in front of the goal. Mauldin collected seven saves at Seattle U before notching a season-high nine at Washington. CSUN would keep Seattle U scoreless through the first 60 minutes before the Redhawks struck for three goals over a 16-minute span. Washington broke a scoreless tie in the 51st minute then notched goals in the 74th and 87th minutes of play.
MATADOR HEADLINES
Through six matches, CSUN has only allowed one goal in the first-half of matches this season, which came in the team's season opener against Portland. However, the opposition has scored nine times over the last four matches in the second half of play.
Hayden Mauldin has started all six matches in goal for CSUN, registering a 1.67 goals-against-average. Mauldin is currently second in The Big West in saves (32) and fourth in saves per game (5.33).
Izabel Reyes and newcomer Paige Califf lead the team with six shots apiece thus far on the season. Yoshi Rubalcava tops the team with five shots on goal. Defender Angelica Claiborne is the only CSUN field player to compete in all 540 minutes of play.
SERIES HISTORY
Idaho holds a 4-1 all-time record over CSUN in women's soccer but the teams have not played since the 2006 season when the Matadors won 7-2. CSUN has won the last four in the series while the Matadors have won all three meetings at home.
UCLA has won 10 of 11 meetings with CSUN. The Bruins prevailed at home last season over the Matadors, 6-0. The last nine meetings have gone the Bruins' way with CSUN's only win coming in 1996 by a 2-1 score. UCLA is making its first trip to Northridge since 2011.
SCOUTING IDAHO
The Vandals are off to a 3-1-1 start to the season after earning a 1-1 draw with Nevada last Thursday. Prior to that match, Idaho posted consecutive 1-0 shutout wins over Utah Tech and UNLV on the road. Last season, the Vandals went 12-3-3 and finished as runners up in the Big Sky Tournament. Idaho was tabbed to finish second in the Big Sky this season. Reigning Big Sky Goalkeeper of the Year, Kira Witte led the nation with 13 shutouts last season. The tandem of Annika Farley and Jayd Sprague top the team with two goals apiece.
SCOUTING UCLA
The fourth-ranked Bruins suffered their first loss this season last Thursday at BYU (3-1). UCLA has wins over two Big West teams this season in Cal Poly (2-1) and UC Irvine (4-0). A season ago, UCLA went 22-2-1 en route to winning a national championship. The Bruins began the season as the national No. 1 ranked team. Three Bruins were picked as Preseason All-Conference selections in Lilly Reale, Reilyn Turner and Sunshine Fontes. Ally Cook tops the team with three goals and seven points while Turner has two goals and two assists.
