9/7/2023 7:28:00 PM | Women's Soccer
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Vandals (4-1-1) jumped on the Matadors (0-6-1) at the outset, scoring in the first 20 seconds of the match. On the play, Alyssa Peters sent a long pass into the CSUN box where Hannah Alfaro headed in the ball over the outstretched hands of Hayden Mauldin. After the Matadors missed a pair of shots, Idaho doubled its lead in the 17th minute. Margo Schoesler was the recipient of a pass from Karli Yoshida-Williams before scoring on a one-versus-one with Mauldin. Ten minutes later, the Vandals stretched their lead to 3-0 after scoring following a throw in as Izzy Thoma found the net from atop the box.

CSUN would flip the script early in the second half, scoring in the 49th minute of play. The Matadors took advantage of an Idaho turnover on the backline with Izabel Reyes picking up the loose ball before scoring into an open net. Idaho though responded in the 58th minute, scoring again via a long ball. Jadyn Hanks would coral the pass and move past the CSUN defense before hitting the net. Reyes nearly scored in similar fashion to her first goal in the 63rd minute, however, her shot was saved by Kira Witte. The Vandals got back in the scoring column in the 68th minute on Alfaro's second strike of the contest.
NOTES OF THE GAME
- Izabel Reyes finished with three shots, all of which on goal while Brooke Mobeck also had three shot attempts.
- Idaho outshot CSUN 13-10 in the match and led 7-3 in shots on goal.
- The Vandals also held a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.
- A total of 17 fouls were called with CSUN whistled for 10 of them.
- Angelica Claiborne played a team-high 90 minutes on the backline.
"First half was tough. Idaho took us off guard and we never really recovered. The start of the second half was better for us and it was great to see Izzy get a goal. We will take the next 12 hours to reflect and focus on getting better tomorrow."
