CSUN Boasts New Top-10 Marks and Two First-Place Finishes to Start Indoor Season

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz.---CSUN Track & Field opened the 2024 indoor season at Northern Arizona's Friday Night Axe 'Em Open inside the Walkup Skydome. The Matador weight throw record would be broken on the day while two Matadors won events and a multitude of top-10 marks were reached.
CSUN MEN
Junior Trey Knight would shatter the school record in the weight throw and post a personal record with a toss of 72-9, winning the event. Also in the weight throw, sophomore Elijah Ignacio set a new personal best with a toss of 52-0.5 to come in 11th place.
Other standouts on the day include sophomore Bryson Williams who finished second in the long jump with a new personal record leap of 23-10.25. Sophomore Tzu-Ting Chan also posted a new PR of 22-9.75 in the long jump for a seventh-place finish in the event.
Junior Gabe Martinez finished second in the 400m with a time of :48.36, the ninth-best mark in CSUN history. Senior David Phillips, Jr. was behind Martinez in third place in the event with a personal record time of :48.52. In the 60m, sophomore Logan Davis advanced to the finals and finished at :6.74 to place third in the event. Davis also came in third in the 200m with a time of :21.65.
CSUN WOMEN
Freshman Danielle Irvin made a splash in her CSUN debut, winning the long jump with a leap of 18-6.50. Behind Irvin, sophomore Zola Grey finished seventh in the event with a jump of 17-4.75 for a new personal-best mark.
Junior Kaliyah Poston entered two CSUN all-time top-10 lists on the day, first in the 60m, she posted a personal-best time of :7:48 in the preliminary round for the third-best mark in CSUN history. Poston then finished with a time of :7.50 for a sixth-place finish in the 60m with that time placing sixth-best in program history. Senior Arianna Alexander had a time of :7.51 in the preliminaries for the ninth-best mark on record at CSUN.
Poston also had a new personal-best time of :24.32 in the 200m, finishing second in the event. Her time is the seventh-best mark in team history.
Freshman Charis Wondercheck qualified for the finals of the 60m-hurdles, registering a time of :8.90 for a seventh-place finish.

"We had a solid start to the indoor season. The coaches and student-athletes did a great job of preparing for this competition. We had a plethora of personal and limetime best performances. I believe the time, effort and work that our team has put in has set us up to have a great season."
