CSUN Falls for the First Time This Season to San José State

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Women's Tennis dropped its first dual of the season as the Matadors fell 4-1 to San José State on Sunday at Matador Tennis Complex. CSUN would earn the doubles point, but the Spartans took four singles matches to take the contest.
HOW IT HAPPENED
CSUN's No. 1 tandem of Sasha Turchak and Yuliia Zhytelna opened doubles play with a 6-1 win over Irena Muradyan and Cheuk Ying Shek. The Matadors would clinch the doubles point when Victoria Santibañez Luna and Cindy Ung downed Carolina Millan and Jovana Babic, 6-4, at No. 2. Angela Ho and Elena Goodman played to a 4-4 match in the other doubles contest, but it went unfinished.
The Spartans though pulled out a series of close singles contests to ultimately take the dual. At No. 5, Babic defeated Nicole West 6-1, 6-1 in the first completed contest. From there, Millan pulled out a tight 6-3, 6-4 decision over Turchak at No. 1. Muradyan beat Zhytelna at No. 2 in another close affair, 7-5, 6-4. San José would clinch the match when Ying Shek knocked off Santibañez Luna 7-5, 6-2.
At No. 4, Emma Moratalla Sanz went to a third set against Rozalina Youseva before the match was called. Moratalla Sanz took the first set 6-3 and Youseva prevailed 6-0 in set two.

- The Spartans were ranked No. 70 in this week's ITA national rankings.
- CSUN remained unbeaten in doubles play this season with its No. 1 (Turchak and Zhytelna) and No. 2 (Santibañez Lyna and Ung) teams improving to 3-0 each.
