CSUN Earns Two Wins to Close Home Non-Conference Slate

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Women's Tennis notched a pair of wins to wrap up its home non-conference schedule on Tuesday at Matador Tennis Complex. The Matadors knocked off Chaminade 7-0 and defeated Westmont 4-0 to improve to 9-2 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED VS. CHAMINADE
CSUN would lead from start to finish in doubles play. At No. 2, Emma Moratalla Sanz and Tallia Harper registered CSUN's first doubles win with a 6-0 decision over Kylie Ye and Kirra Carvalho. The Matadors would see the spring debut from Vitoria Solis Urdiales who teamed with Nicole West for a 6-0 win at No. 3 over Anciane Miguel and Jasmine Matos to clinch the doubles point. Angela Ho and Elena Goodman competed together at No. 1 for the first time this spring and closed doubles play with a 6-0 triumph over Berylin Lau and Jordyn Luna 6-0.
CSUN kept up the momentum going into singles competition. Ho made her spring debut at the No. 1 court where she beat Lau 6-0, 6-0. Goodman notched a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 over Luna. From there, West registered a straight set 6-0, 6-0 decision against Ye at No. 3. Harper would follow suit at No. 4 with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Carvalho while Solis Urdiales picked up her first singles win, besting Sydney Danielson 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5. Cindy Ung wrapped up play with her first singles victory of the spring with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Selena Buttery.
HOW IT HAPPENED VS. WESTMONT
Solis Urdiales and West would notch the first doubles win at No. 3 against Westmont's Sabina Salva and Logan Jackson. Sofia Dermenjyan would make her spring debut in doubles play, teaming with Harper to a 6-1 victory over Liska Knight and Justie Spitzer at No. 2. Ho and Goodman kept up their winning ways with a 6-2 win at No. 1, knocking off Francesca Aguirre and Sophia Ostovany.
Dermenjyan posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Knight at No. 5 to start singles action. Ung notched another singles win, beating Jackson at No. 6 by a 6-1, 6-0 decision. CSUN would clinch the match at No. 4 where Solis Urdiales capped off her day with a tough 6-0, 6-4 win over Spitzer.
Three other singles matches went unfinished with CSUN leading all three. At No. 1, Moratalla Sanz was ahead 7-5, 3-0 while West was up 6-2, 5-0 at No. 2 and Harper led 6-3, 2-0 at No. 3.

"Really proud of how we showed up today as a team," said West. "Every court stayed solid, and we pulled out a good result today."
"I think we all played well today and I'm proud of everyone's effort," said Harper. "Overall, I felt really good about my game, and I enjoyed being out there."
"Today was a lot of fun," said Solis Urdiales. "We got to play a lot of tennis, and everybody playing showed up with their 'A' game. A solid performance across the board."
"I was really happy with my tennis today," said Dermenjyan. "I had a great time competing. I'm super proud of this team!"
"With the support of everyone around us, we were able to achieve amazing results all around," said Ung.
UP NEXT
CSUN will hit the road for a Big West match with Cal State Fullerton. Due to anticipated rain in the forecast this weekend, the match has been moved up to Thursday with first serve set for 1:30 p.m.
