CSUN Track & Field Heads to UC Irvine for Friday Meet

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Track & Field is set to compete at UC Irvine's Vince O'Boyle Track.& Field Classic on Friday, March 29. Field events will begin at 10 a.m. while running events begin at 4 p.m.

TREY KNIGHT CLAIMS BIG WEST FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Junior Trey Knight made a strong outdoor debut for CSUN, earning Big West Field Athlete of the Week honors on March 26. Knight would make his outdoor debut at the Ron & Sharlene Allice Trojan Invitational on March 22 where he shattered the school's hammer throw record with a toss of 76.36m (250-6). He finished in first place in an 18-man field as his mark was among the top five in the world for 2024. Knight was previously named MPSF Male Athlete of the Year for the indoor season earlier this year.
DAVID PHILLIPS NAMED BIG WEST TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Senior David Phillips, Jr. would take home his second career Big West Track Athlete of the Week honor on March 26. Phillips made his outdoor debut this season at the Ron & Sharlene Allice Trojan Invitational, posting a school record in the 200m with a time of 20.51 to take first place. He also claimed first as a member of the 4x100 relay team with Tosh Black, James Crawford and Chase Mars as the quartet ran a 39.75. Phillips would have a strong showing at the 100m as well, finishing third with a time of 10.36.
LAST TIME OUT
CSUN competed in two meets last week as the Matadors sent two student-athletes to compete at the UC Riverside Spring Classic Multis and a full team to USC's Ron & Sharlene Allice Trojan Invitational.
At UCR, Audrie Reuss and Brianna Kelpis competed in the heptathlon with the latter competing unattached. Reuss finished eighth at the event with 4218 points while Kelpis came in fourth place at 4703 points.
CSUN had numerous standout performances at the Trojan Invitational, highlighted by four first-place finishes. Along with Trey Knight and David Phillips, Jr., who won the hammer throw and the 200m, respectively, and set CSUN records in the process, Dillon Peters took first place in the triple jump with a leap of 15.69m (51-5.75). CSUN's 4x100 relay team would win their event as well with the combination of Tosh Black, Phillips, James Crawford and Chase Mars running 39.75. Elsewhere on the men's side, Mars was second in the 100m with a time of 10.33 while Chris Pitts was second in the 400m at 46.93 and Tzu-Ting Chan was second in the long jump with a leap of 7.06m (23-2).
On the women's side, Kaliyah Poston was a top performer in the 100m with a time of 11.89 while Emily Hutchinson took second in the shot put with a toss of 14.72m (48-3.50). Genesis Washington finished in third place in the 100m-hurdles at 14.48, Leann Hamilton was third in the 800m with a time of 2:15.05 and Alba Moreno Paredes finished third in the high jump with a mark of 1.60m (5-3).
