MARICOPA, Ariz. - A pair of Matadors are in the top 20 after the opening round was completed Monday at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club. With teams closing in on the end of the second round, lightning in the area caused the round to be suspended.
CSUN is one of 14 teams under par through 18 holes after carding a 6-under 282. The Matadors are tied for ninth with Utah Valley, eight strokes behind team-leading Grand Canyon (272).
Antoine Sale and Felix Schrott are both in the top 20 after round one, with Sale tied for 12th and Schrott tied for 19th. Sale fired four birdies and 14 pars in round one to finish the morning round at 4-under 68. Schrott is one shot back at 3-under 69 after also posting four birdies along with 13 pars and one bogey.Â
CSUNÂ SCORES
ACCORDING TO HEAD COACH JIM BRACKEN
"We played solid, as a coach you can't complain about your team being 6-under after one round. We still have five holes to go in the second round so we hope to get a few birdies coming in and then play a good final round. We've got work to do to get there but I'd like to see us finish in the top-five."
All 23 teams will complete the second round Tuesday morning before beginning the final round immediately after.
