CSUN Heads to UCSD for Triton Invitational

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Track & Field returns to competition this week from April 5-6 at the UC San Diego Triton Invitational. Friday will consist of field events only with throwing events kicking off the day at 9:30 a.m. On Saturday, field events will start at 9:30 a.m. followed by track events starting at 10 a.m.

LAST TIME OUT
CSUN had a standout weekend at the UC Irvine Vince O'Boyle Track and Field Classic on March 29. The CSUN men posted six event wins while the women notched two wins to complete the meet. CSUN's 4x100 relay team of Tosh Black, David Phillips, Jr., James Crawford and Chase Mars won with a time of 39.29, which ranked ninth-best in the nation on the season. Phillips also took home first place in the 100m with the second-best time in school history at 10.30 while Mars won the 200m with a time of 20.73. Chris Pitts finished in first in the 400m with a time of 47.29, Atticus Hall won the 800m with a time of 1:54.34 and Camilo Torres posted a first-place finish in the 3000m steeplechase at 9:41.39. On the women's side, the 4x100 relay team of Kaliyah Poston, Ciella Seals, Jada Reese and Arianna Alexander won the event with a time of 45.63 while Katherine Shipp-Davis won the discus with a toss of 46.92m (153-11).
MARS COLLECTS BIG WEST TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Junior Chase Mars earned his first career Big West Track Athlete of the Week award on April 2. He set personal bests in two events along with his first event victory of the outdoor season at the Vince O'Boyle Track and Field Classic on March 29. Mars won the 200m dash event with a personal record time of 20.73, posting the third-best recorded time in school history. He also finished in second place in the 100m dash with a PR of 10.30, good enough for third-best in program history. Mars would help the 4x100 relay team take first place at the meet as well as he teamed with Tosh Black, David Phillips, Jr. and James Crawford to post a new school record time (39.29).

Six members of the CSUN Track & Field team hold the best marks in The Big West thus far this season with 28 others populating the conference's top-10 lists. David Phillips, Jr.'s 100m run (10.30) at the Vince O'Boyle Track and Field Classic leads the conference while his 200m mark (20.51) at the Trojan Invite tops the league as well. Chris Pitts' 400m dash (46.93) at the Trojan Invite leads the conference along with Dillon Peters' triple jump (15.69m, 51-5.75) and Trey Knight's hammer throw (76.36m, 250-6) marks. CSUN's women's 4x100 relay team's (Kaliyah Poston, Ciella Seals, Jada Reese and Arianna Alexander) time of 45.63 at the Vince O'Boyle Track and Field Classic also tops the conference.
NATIONAL RANKINGS
CSUN's Men's Track & Field team is currently ranked No. 21 in the nation and the highest of any Big West team in the top-25 national rankings. The CSUN men are also 12th ranked in the west region while the women's team holds the No. 30 spot in the region.
UP NEXT
Next week, CSUN has a busy week lined up with three meets on the schedule. The Matadors will compete at the Azusa Pacific Bryan Clay Invitational from April 11-13 along with the Long Beach State Beach Invitational from April 11-13 and the UCLA Invitational on April 13.
