CSUN Wraps Up Triton Invitational

LA JOLLA, Calif.---CSUN Track & Field wrapped up day two of the Triton Invitational on Saturday at the Triton Track and Field Stadium. CSUN's men's team posted six top-10 finishes while the women's team collected one top-five finish.
MEN
In the hammer throw, Joseph Alipranti led the Matadors with a seventh-place finish with a toss of 59.02m (193-7). Tylor Connelly also cracked the top-10, finishing in ninth place with a personal record toss of 54.15m (177-8). Francisco Isiordia also competed in the event, coming in 29th place with a heave of 38.76m (127-2).
Tui Edwin paced CSUN in the shot put event as his toss of 14.66m (48-1.25) was good enough for seventh place. Santiago Cerda took ninth place with a toss of 14.41m (47-3.50) while Matthew Hodges was 14th with a throw of 13.28m (43-7) and Isiordia was 16th with a toss of 13.01m (42-8.25).Â
Two Matadors competed in the shot put elite event with Guillermo Lopez taking ninth place with a throw of 16.14m (52-11.50). Elijah Ignacio would finish in 13th place by throwing 15.78m (51-9.25).
Ignacio would pace CSUN in the discus throw, finishing in seventh with a toss of 50.00m (164-0). Also in the discus, Lopez finished in 15th place with a throw of 45.32m (148-8) followed by Edwin in 22nd place with a new personal record toss of 43.17m (141-7) and Cerda in 28th place by throwing 41.03 (134-7).
In distance races, Ethan Smith competed in the 800m and placed 29th with a time of 1:58.89. Kai Smith would finish in 49th place in the 1500m run by running 4:19.08.
WOMEN
Freshman Jocelyn Hoggard posted a fourth-place finish in the shot put with a personal record toss of 12.52m (41-1). Two Matadors would compete in the shot put elite event with Emily Hutchinson taking 11th place with a toss of 14.35m (47-1) followed by Katherine Shipp-Davis in 16th place at 13.05m (42-9.75).
In distance races, Sakura Divecchio competed in the 5000m run, finishing in 25th place at 19:47.57. Ouanessa Nana would finish 54th in the 800m run by running a 2:34.68.

"On day two, the throwers definitely had a solid day. It was great to see some personal bests and season bests being thrown out there. Hopefully, they can keep up the good work and continue to improve."
UP NEXT
CSUN will split up its team next week and compete in three different meets. The Matadors will send student-athletes to the Azusa Pacific Bryan Clay Invitational from April 11-13, the Long Beach State Beach Invitational from April 11-13 and the UCLA Invitational on Saturday, April 13.
