CSUN to Compete in Four Events at NCAA Championships

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---The CSUN Men's Track & Field team will be represented in four events at this week's NCAA Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. The men's championships will begin Wednesday with a full slate of events before concluding on Friday. All men's events will be broadcast on ESPN2.

Men's Hammer Throw Finals - 2:00 p.m.
Men's 4x100 Relay Prelims - 4:32 p.m.

Men's 200m Prelims - 6:44 p.m.
Trey Knight will represent CSUN in the hammer throw finals on Wednesday after a stellar outdoor season. Knight is the first Matador since Erick Loomis to compete at the NCAA Championships in the hammer throw. Knight qualified for nationals after finishing third in the west regional with a toss of 71.02m (233-0) and placing third in the 48-athlete field. On the season, Knight holds the second-best hammer throw toss in the nation with a throw of 76.99 (252-7) at the Mt. SAC Relays on April 20. Knight won the hammer throw title at the 2024 Big West Championships in May while he was named Big West Field Athlete of the Year.
CSUN will have its first men's 4x100 relay team compete at the NCAAs since 2010. Representing CSUN in Eugene will be Tosh Black, David Phillips, Jr., James Crawford, Chase Mars, Shamil Youngblood and Chris Pitts. The quartet of Black, Crawford, Youngblood and Mars qualified CSUN for nationals by posting a time 39.48 to place 11th in the west regional. Earlier this season, CSUN's 4x100 relay team registered a school record time of 39.29 at the Vince O'Boyle Classic on March 30.
Crawford advanced to the NCAA Championships in the 100m, becoming the first Matador to compete on the national stage in the event since Carl Horsley in 2015. At the west regional, Crawford finished 12th in the 100m with a time of 10.07 (wind-aided). Crawford's regional performances included a new personal record 100m time of 10.27 set in the preliminary round, which ranked as the third fastest in school history.
Mars is the first CSUN athlete since Horsley in 2015 to compete in the 200m at nationals. His time of 20.25 at the west regional was the fourth fastest overall at the event while it set a new all-time school benchmark. In May, Mars won the Big West title in the 200m with a time of 20.52 while he also broke the school record (non-wind-aided) in the 100m with a time of 10.20.
