The Tritons would then clinch the doubles point when Naomi Nguyen and Allison Lian defeated Goodman and Emma Moratalla Sanz 6-2.Â
Â
In the singles portion of competition, UCSD took its second point of the day when the first bout finished. Taberas defeated Moratalla Sanz 6-0, 7-6.
Â
The 101st ranked player in the nation, Julia Haynes, earned the third point of the day for UCSD when she defeated Zhytelna, 6-2, 6-2.Â
Â
After being down 3-0, CSUN earned its first point of the day. Ho bested Grace Gamal, 6-3, 6-4 to make it a 3-1 game.Â
Â
Ho, the junior from San Francisco, shared her thoughts on today's match, "I played well in doubles and that gave me confidence in singles. I felt in control throughout most of the singles match which helped me close out in straight sets. We lost a close one today, but I'm still very proud of how we competed and I'm looking forward to our conference tournament next week."
Â
The Matadors would keep fighting trailing 3-1. CSUN got the deficit down to a one-point duel at the conclusion of the battle on Court No. 4. Goodman defeated Lian, 6-3, 7-5 to cut the lead in half and give CSUN its second point of the day.Â
Â
Goodman commented on her performance, "I didn't have the best start in doubles but thankfully I picked up my energy in singles play. Despite all of the noise coming from everyone watching and cheering, I was able to lock in and get the job done. All the girls fought so hard on every court even though we didn't pull through with the win. Overall, we are excited and confident going into the conference tournament next week."
Â
CSUN's comeback fell short as UCSD won the final two singles matches. Vu defeated Shepperson, 6-2, 1-6, 7-6 and Kelly Leung defeated Victoria Santibanez Luna, in three sets, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.
