CSUN Defeats Monmouth University in Clean Sweep, 7-0

CAMARILLO, Calif --- The CSUN tennis team (2-1) defeated the Monmouth University Hawks, 7-0 at Las Posas CC Friday afternoon.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Doubles
CSUN kicked off the dual by winning the doubles point. Angela Ho and Nicole West defeated Hana McKinney and Ximena Cano, 6-3 on Court No.1 to earn the half point for the Matadors.

However, Monmouth didn't go down without a fight during doubles play. The Hawks won on Court No.2 when Pavitra Parikh and Faith Sadgrove bested Emma Moratalla Sanz and Sandra Arguelles by a score of 6-3.Â

It came down to Court No. 3 and CSUN came up clutch. Tallia Harper and Madison Shepperson won over Becky Fisher and Emilia Julin, 6-4, giving the Matadors the doubles point.

Singles
The first matchup was decided on Court No.1. Ho made quick work of McKinney, 6-1, 6-3 to give CSUN its second point of the day.

The next match to finish was on Court No. 5. Sofia Dermenjyan defeated Fisher, 6-1, 6-2 to make it a 3-0 game. Dermenjyan found the winners circle again after dropping her last bout to LMU on February 1st.Â

Dermenjyan shared her thoughts on today's performance, "We started a bit slow in doubles but adjusted well and picked up the intensity. Singles were solid across the board, and everyone stepped up and competed strong. I felt good out there today and was able to adjust and raise my level as the match went on."

CSUN would then clinch the match and take a 4-0 lead when Harper defeated Cano, 6-1, 6-2 on Court No. 4.

Harper commented on today's match, "I'm really proud of the team and everyone's fight today. It was really nice to be able to come out here and compete alongside my teammates. It's always so inspiring and motivating when I see everyone giving it their absolute best effort. I'm excited for what's to come!"

On Court No. 3, the Matadors would take their fifth point of the day when Moratalla Sanz got the best of Sadgrove, 6-3, 6-3.

CSUN would win its sixth point of the day when Shepperson defeated Gray, 6-1, 6-2 on Court No. 6. This was Shepperson's first singles win of the season.

And lastly, West defeated Parikh on Court No.2Â in a tightly contested showdown, 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 10-2

NOTES OF THE GAME
CSUN will gear up for a mid-day matinee on Wednesday, Feb. 18 when it takes on San Jose State at Matador Tennis Complex. First serve is set for 2:00 p.m.

- This was the first meeting ever between these two schools.
- CSUN has taken the doubles point in two out of three duals this season.
