Mataalii spent two seasons at Los Angeles Harbor College from 2023-25 ... competed in the steeplechase, 1,500m, 800m and 400m events in college ... competed with LAHC during the cross country seasons where she took fourth place in the 2025 South Coast Conference Championships in the 5k (19:02.70) along with 22nd in the 2025 3C2A XC Championships (19:00.77) ... participated with the West LA College track & field team where she took third place in both the 800m (2:22.48) and the 1500m (5:03.50) at the 2025 Western Conference Championships ... advanced to the 2025 3C2A Championships in the 1500m, placing eighth at 4:57.93 ... attended San Pedro High School and graduated in 2023 ... named to her high school Honor Roll ... competed on her high school cross country and track & field teams, participating in the 1,600m, 800m, 3,200m and 4x800m events ... received the Captain Award and team MVP.Â
PERSONAL
Parents are Morgan and Sandra Mataalii ... she has two siblings: Miyoko and Kaia ... favorites include LDA of LaLiga, Islam Makhachev, Ryan Gosling, Natalie Portman, the tv show "Succession," the film "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind," the band Air Formation and Johnny Cash ... favorite food are dumplings ... chose CSUN because she felt it was a great opportunity for her to become a better athlete and a good college for her major (Kinesiology) ... lists advancing to the state championships for the first time as her favorite sports moment ... says working hard for goals and accomplishing them is the best thing about being an athlete ... writes her own poetry ... says her older sister Miyoko is her greatest hero.Â
