CSUN Concludes Conference Play at LBSU, vs. UC Davis on Senior Day

Matadors Look to Extend Nine-Game Winning Streak

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- The CSUN women's basketball team (17-11, 10-4 Big West) play a pivotal contests in the final week of the Big West Conference regular season. On Thursday, Mar. 2, the Matadors travel to the Walter Pyramid to take on the Long Beach State 49ers in a meeting of second and third in the league standings. Two days later, CSUN hosts the league-leading UC Davis Aggies in a 2 p.m. game in which the Matadors will honor Emily Cole and Katelin King in a post-game ceremony for Senior Day. Mark Roberts will be on the call on the CSUN Sports Network for the contest in Long Beach while Alan Zinsmeister will be on the call on Senior Day on BigWest TV. Last week, CSUN posted victories over Cal State Fullerton and UC Riverside to extend their winning streak to nine-straight games and tie a school record. Against the Titans, Channon Fluker scored 17 points and finished with seven rebounds, seven assists and seven blocked shots while Hayley Tanabe was a perfect 4-for-4 from 3-point range.Â
Two days later, Fluker scored 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds while Serafina Maulupe added 18 points and Tanabe posted six points, seven rebounds and seven assists. The nine-straight wins matches the 2014-15 team's school record, which also came against conference opponents.
This week will finalize the conference standings and seeding for the upcoming Big West Tournament. The 49ers and Aggies are the top two teams in the standings, perched just above the Matadors. With a few victories, CSUN can ensure itself a double-bye in the tournament with a second-place finish. If CSUN wins twice and UC Davis loses twice, the Matadors would earn the No. 1 seed.Â
The 49ers feature a highly decorated senior class that will be determined to defend home court on Senior Day and avenge an earlier loss this season to the Matadors. The Aggies are 12-2 in the Big West and boasts a potent offense that produced 81 points against the Matadors in their earlier meeting this season.

- Senior Emily Cole is the team's only senior on the 2016-17 roster and brings experience and poise to CSUN.Â

- The Long Beach State 49ers enter the week with a 20-9 overall record and 11-3 mark in the Big West Conference
- The 49ers have won three-straight games, including victories over UC Riverside and UC Irvine last week
