Three Games Await CSUN This Week

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—A three-game stretch awaits CSUN women's basketball this week. Action tips off Wednesday afternoon when the Matadors host California Baptist in a 12 p.m. tilt.

The game will be streamed on the CSUN Sports Network presented by Dignity Health with Alan Zinsmeister on the call. The pregame show will begin 10 minutes prior to the scheduled tip. Admission is free as it is Kids' Day. With over 900 students committed to attend prior to Wednesday afternoon, The Matadors will have a chance to break the all-time women's basketball attendance record which is 1,143 and was set on Feb. 26, 2011 against UC Santa Barbara.

The Lancers, who are in their first season at the Division I level, are off to a 1-5 start. A former Division II power, California Baptist is a member of the Western Athletic Conference. Britney Thomas is pacing the team by averaging a double-double this season. Thomas is scoring 17.9 points per game and averaging 12.2 rebounds per game. She is third in the WAC in scoring and second in rebounding. Her .551 shooting percentage is the third best in the WAC. This is the second time that CSUN and CBU are playing with the Matadors leading the all-time series 1-0.

CSUN hits the road later in the week, beginning Friday at Santa Clara. Play is set for 4 p.m. TheW.tv will have the video stream with a link available on GoMatadors.com.

After going 9-21 a year ago, the Broncos are off to a 5-1 start in 2018-19. Tina Hay leads the team in scoring (15.5). Lauren Yearwood is currently third in Division I in blocks with 21 and blocks per game at 3.5. She paces the team in rebounding (7.7). CSUN is playing Santa Clara for the first time since the 2013-14 season. The Broncos lead the all-time series 8-2.

Play concludes Sunday afternoon when the Matadors travel to No. 18/23 California. The game will begin at 2 p.m. and will be streamed on Pac-12.com. The Bears are ranked 15th in the AP Top 25 poll and 23rd in the USA Today WBCA Coaches Top 25 poll. California improved to 6-0 on the year after defeating San Diego 70-53 on Saturday. Kristine Anigwe leads Division I in double-doubles with six. She is third in D-1 in rebounding (14.2), third in field goals made (54), seventh in free throw attempts (48), eighth in points (144), and eighth in scoring (24.0). This is the eighth time that CSUN and Cal are playing with the Bears leading the all-time series 5-2.

Sunday's game is the 29th time since CSUN moved to the Division I level in time for the 1990-91 season that the Matadors are playing a nationally ranked opponent.
CSUN is 2-4 after going 1-1 during its own Warner Center Marriott Thanksgiving Basketball Classic last weekend. After trailing by 14 in the first half, the Matadors defeated Washington State 65-52 in the semifinals. Channon Fluker recorded her 59th career double-double against the Cougars with 24 points and 14 rebounds. Harvard shot 54.7% from the field as the Crimson defeated CSUN 75-55 in the championship game Saturday night. De'Jionae Calloway ended the game with a game high 19 points. She made seven of 14 field goal attempts and grabbed a team high eight rebounds. Calloway would be named to the All-Tournament team as the 6-0 forward 12.5 points and 9.5 rebounds during the tournament.
