Matadors Eighth After 36 Holes at Big West Championship

IRVINE, Calif. - Two of CSUN's five players lowered her score from round one to round two but the Matadors dropped a spot from seventh to eighth after 36 holes of the Big West Championship Monday at Strawberry Farms Golf Club.
After opening with a team round of 306 on Sunday, CSUNÂ slipped to 315 on Monday as scores rose for six of the eight teams in the field.
Sophomore Michelle Duan, who led the Matador charge on day one, finished Monday's round at 10-over 81 to drop from a tie for sixth into a tie for 18th. Duan had a single birdie on the front nine as she made the turn at five-over. She then finished five-over on the back nine to finish 10-over for the round and is 11-over 153 for the championship.
Senior Shenna DeLeon posted a four-shot improvement from round one as she moved up from 31st into a tie for 21st at 12-over 154. After opening with a 79 on Sunday, DeLeon posted a solid four-over 75 on Monday. She was three-over after two holes Monday before posting par on her next 11 holes. After two bogeys at 14 and 15, DeLeon birdied No. 16 to get back to four-over where she remained.
Sophomore Alice Duan, who began the day tied for 20th, slipped into a tie for 26th after a second round nine-over 80. Duan made the turn at two-over and finished the back nine at seven-over.Â
Kayla Yn posted a five-shot improvement over her round one 84, posting an eight-over 79 in round two. Yn is tied for 38th with teammate Brooke Hamilton at 21-over 163. Hamilton slipped to a second round 84 after posting an opening round 79 on Sunday.
The overnight team leader, Long Beach State (589) lost three shots on its round one lead but still carries a seven-stroke advantage over UC Davis (596) into Tuesday's final round. UC Irvine (599) is third followed by Cal Poly (601), Hawai'i (607), Cal State Fullerton (614), UC Riverside (618) and the Matadors (621).
CSUNÂ will be paired with UC Riverside for the final round which gets underway Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m.
