FINAL SCORE
MCU vs. CSUN
Feb 9, 2019 at Northridge, Calif
(Matador Tennis Complex)
CSUN 6, MCU 0
HOW IT HAPPENED:
FOR MCU:
"I liked that we stayed focused. We had some things we were working on that we wanted to put into play, and obviously playing a program that is just getting started, we wanted to just stay focused and not lose concentration on the task. Overall I thought we played pretty well in doubles, and it was good to get a match in because if you get a few weeks without a match you get rusty. This team works hard and we are looking forward to the next challenge in Long Beach."

FINAL SCORE
MCU vs. CSUN
Feb 9, 2019 at Northridge, Calif
(Matador Tennis Complex)
CSUN 6, MCU 0
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- CSUN began the day by taking the doubles point convincingly over the Mariners. Monika Van de Vondel and the newest Matador, Lauren Anderson started the scoring with a sweep victory over Daisy Gonzalez and Sarah Webha (6-0).
- The Matadors would clinch the doubles point when Emma Roenholt and Sibel Demirbaga cruised past Ysabelle Arambulo and Sabrina Subero (6-0) in No.2 doubles.
- In singles competition, CSUN flexed its collective muscles buy only dropping five sets throughout. Lauren Anderson collected her first singles' win in her first singles' match as a Matador by blanking Sarah Webha (6-0, 6-0).
- The Matadors continued having success when Demirbaga defeated Gonzalez (6-0, 2-0 retired)).
- Senior Skyla Alcon remains undefeated in singles' competition by taking care of Hailey McNall (6-0, 6-0)
- Van De Vondel felt her most comfortable since she sustained her injury two weeks prior, as she outlasted Miah Webb in No.1 singles (6-0, 6-2) in preparation for next week's Big West bout versus Long Beach State
- Alcon, who has emerged as a team leader for the Matadors, is 4-0 to begin singles play this season. Alcon and freshman Ana Isabel Fraile Toboso are both undefeated in singles' play thus far. "Skyla is leading for us so well, she is totally focused and not only getting better but making everyone else better," said head coach Gary Victor. "Ana is a freshman but she is super talented, super coachable and an incredible human being."
- Van de Vondel, who is now playing with a knee brace, feels more comfortable and is ready for the hard task of winning on the road at LBSU. "I feel like everyone is working super hard, we just have to believe in ourselves and play our style of tennis." Van de Vondel said.
FOR MCU:
- The Mariners are part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), primarily competing in the California Pacific Conference (CAL PAC)
- This match against CSUN was only the third match in the history of the tennis program for MCU who played their first match in school history versus the University of Saint Katherine (Jan 26).
- This was the inaugural competition between the schools in any sport.
