HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Matadors took the doubles point after dropping the first matchup of the day at No. 3 singles when Maria Tatarnikova and Selene Turulja defeated Emma Roenholt and Sibel Demirbaga 6-2.
- CSUN would win back to back doubles matches to take the point advantage when Skyla Alcon and Monika Van de Vondel took care of Anastaysha Gorbacheva and Melissa Huchet 6-2 on Court No.1.
- It came down to Court No.2 and CSUN came through when Jolene Coetzee and Ana Isabel Fraile Toboso knocked off Roos vanReek and Adriana Gergelyova 6-4.
- When singles play began, Nevada evened the scoring. The Wolfpack's Selina Turulja ended Demirbaga's undefeated streak of 12 in a row to begin her collegiate career. The freshman from Germany suffered her first defeat by a score of 6-2, 2-6, 6-0.
- Nevada then got the upper hand by winning at No.3 singles when vanReek defeated Fraile Toboso in three sets (2-6, 7-5, 6-1). The freshman from Spain suffers her first loss in singles play this season and the first of her career as well. (11-1).
- However, CSUN would go on to tie the score at two apiece when Coetzee continued her good play as she went the distance, but got over Huchet 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.
- A back-and-forth affair saw the Wolfpack get the advantage when Gergelyova defeated Van de Vondel 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.
- Roenholt would get the Matadors even again after the junior from Denmark conquered Gorbacheva in three sets (3-6, 6-3, 5-4, retired).
- A 3-3 matchup saw the dual come down to No.4 singles, and Alcon proved to be very clutch for the Matadors. In a matchup that went three sets and seven points in two of them, the senior and one of the team leaders from Hawai'i outlasted Tatarnikova (4-6, 7-5, 7-5) even after dropping the initial set. "Skyla handled the pressure so well, we are thrilled for her to get the deciding match," said head coach Gary Victor. "She is one of the most special ladies to ever put on a CSUN Tennis uniform."
"This was not a pretty win but spoke to our toughness and sticktoitiveness. Skyla, Jolene and Emma lost first sets and came back to win. They had no quit in them. Emma was down 4-1 in the third and believed she would win."
