CSUN To Send 2 More To National Track Championships

SACRAMENTO, Calif.—Two more CSUN competitors advanced to the NCAA Division I Track & Field Championships as the Matadors completed their stint in the NCAA Division I Track & Field West Regional Saturday.

MEN
Bashiru Abdullahi claimed the 12th and final qualifying spot in the 110m hurdles to advance to the national championships. Abdullahi ran :13.94 in the race. The semifinals are scheduled for June 5 at 7:32 p.m. CDT/5:32 p.m. PDT. The University of Houston's Amere Lattin won the race (:13.56).

Clint Meyer just missed advancing in the shot put. His toss of 61-10 1/4 earned him 15th place as the Matthew Katnik of USC took the 12th and final spot by recording a throw of 62-8 1/2.

CSUN's three entries in the triple jump did not advance out of the regional round. Matthew Arnold was the top performer as he placed 18th (50-3 1/4). Ahmed Mohamed was 23rd (49-7 3/4) while Mathieu Tshani finished 26th (49-3 1/2).

WOMEN
By finishing in 11th in the 100m hurdles in a time of :13.24, Sydney Mosley advances to the national championships. The semis are set for June 6 at 8:02 p.m. CDT/6:02 p.m. PDT. Chanel Brissett of USC (:12.69) won the event.

Brandy Williams tallied the fourth-longest mark in school history in the women's shot put, 53-0 1/4, but her effort came up just short for national advancement. Williams ended the night in 14th, two spots away from moving on to nationals.

Ty Wallace recorded a leap of 39-10 in the triple jump to come in 36th in the field of 48 for the Matadors.

The 4x400m relay of De'Andreah Young, Lena Kandissounon, Mosley, and Immanuela Aliu ran 3:42.73 which resulted in a 23rd place finish for the Matadors.

"Today was a pretty good day for our teams. We added two more individuals in Bash and Sydney to our list of athletes moving onto the national championships. We were so close in many other events. I'm proud of the efforts of our entire team. They gained great experience and represented the Matador nation with poise and class."
