NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The CSUN Men's Volleyball team remained unbeaten inside The Matadome in 2022 as the Matadors swept the Vanguard Lions, 3-0 in a non-conference match Wednesday night.

COACH JEFF CAMPBELL SAID
"I thought our serving was good tonight and when you serve tough it causes the other teams' offense so many problems. Kyle and Griffin both hit very well and both middles hit well. We're getting better defensively too. Vanguard is a good team and I was pleased that we played hard and finished off the third set when we could have drifted off mentally. We'll go on the road and play an elite team tomorrow night but we're improving every week and that needs to happen for us to prove we're an elite team also."
SET 1
Neither team led by more than two points in opening set until three straight errors by the visitors opened up a 13-9 CSUN lead. Another miscue out of a Vanguard timeout extended the lead to five before Allen's ace gave the Matadors a 16-10 cushion. Leading 19-12, the Lions scored two straight to trim the lead to 19-14 but Vanguard would get no closer as a Walters ace closed the set 25-16.
SET 2
After set one featured seven ties, the second set saw five ties as the Lions overcame an early 6-3 Matador lead to knot the score at 8-8. A Hobus kill capped a 3-1 CSUN run as the Matadors opened up an 11-9 lead. CSUN maintained a two-point edge at 12-10 before a 4-0 Vanguard run, capped by three straight Matt Roussin kills, put the Lions in front 14-12. A Meoni kill kept Vanguard in front by two (17-15) when a Walters kill fueled a 10-1 Matador run to close the set in CSUN's favor 25-18.

SET 3
After hitting .478 in set two, the Matadors upped their hitting to .520 in leading from start to finish in the final set. Walters served the first four points before a Krzmarzick kill forced a Vanguard timeout at 11-6.
