Matadors to Compete in Two Events This Weekend

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—The CSUN Men's and Women's Track and Field teams have a busy weekend ahead as the Matadors will compete in two meets.
CSUN will send entries to the University of Arizona's Willie Williams Classic on Friday and Saturday. Field events are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. on Friday with the track events getting underway at 5 p.m. On Saturday, the field events are set for 9 a.m. with the first college running events scheduled for 11:05 a.m.
Teams scheduled to compete at the Willie Williams Classic are Arizona, CAC, Concordia-St. Paul, Grand Canyon, Hamline, Hastings College, Loyola Marymount, NM State, Ottawa University, Park University, Pima CC, St. Thomas (Minn.), Utah State, Utah Valley, Vassar, and Western New Mexico.
CSUN are scheduled to enter 10-12 distance runners at Azusa Pacific's Franson Classic on Saturday. The track events are scheduled for a 1 p.m. start with the majority of the distance races being run between 4 and 8 p.m. Teams scheduled to compete at APU are Antelope Valley College, Arizona Christian, Azusa Pacific, Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State LA, CSU Bakersfield, CSUN, College of the Canyons, La Verne, Loyola Marymount, Montana State, San Francisco State, San Diego, Ventura College, and West LA College.

CSUN's Yanla Ndjip-Nyemeck was selected Big West Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week on Mar. 15. Ndjip-Nyemeck took top honors in the 100m hurdles at the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos Invitational Mar. 11. Her time of :13.68 is currently the fastest in the Big West Conference and the West Region. The performance was just shy of reaching the CSUN Outdoor Top-10.(:13.63 is 10th and has been recorded by two athletes; Erin Morris-1992 and Jackie Washington-1980). The time It was the first start for Ndjip-Nyemeck as Brussels, Belgium native redshirted the 2021 season for the Matadors.
The Matador women won two other events at UCSB. Arianna Alexander won the 100m by going :11.98. The CSUN women's 4x100m relay of Alexander, Ndjip-Nyemeck, Kaliyah Poston, and Annayah Pelt, were victorious in a time of :46.45.
The top men's performances were a pair of second-place showings turned in by Raphael Adedigba, in the 100m (:10.97) and De Marq Jaque, in the 200m (:22.02).
