CSUN Opens Cross Country Season at UCI

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—The CSUN men's and women's cross country teams opened the 2022 season Thursday night at the Anteater Opener, hosted by UC Irvine.
MEN
Daniel Rodriguez turned in CSUN's top finish, 19th on the 6k course. He ran 19:44.2 to earn 18th place points.
CSUN PERFORMANCES
WOMEN
Nicole Contreras was the top finishing Matador in the 4k race. She received 29th place points (41st overall) in a time of 16:17.6. Her performance is the eighth fastest 4k time by a CSUN runner since 2000.

"It felt great to kick off the 2022 cross country season. Our men and women raced well. The purpose of this first race was to allow us to assess our strengths and weaknesses. We can now move forward in training and prepare for our next race."

- Freshman Camilo Torres was the second Matador to finish. He recorded a time of 19:52.9 to be scored 21st (23rd overall).
- Atticus Hall earned 24th place points (26th overall) with his 20:10.4.
- James Moore received 25th place points (27th overall) as he ran 20:14.8.
- Cesar Cuevas was awarded 26th place points (29th overall) by going 20:23.4.
- Kai Smith scored in 27th (32nd overall) after posting a 21:31.5
- Balmore Montes rounded out the Matadors who scored as he was placed in 28th (21:33.6), 33rd overall.
- Also running for CSUN were Luis Silva (21:37.5, 34th) and Pablo Abrego (22:38.5, 36th).
WOMEN

- Rachael Simpson, 34th place points (53rd overall), 17:43.9
- Ouanessa Nana, 35th place points (55th overall), 18:53.5
- Estefania De Los Santos 57th overall, 20:32.8
