CSUN Falls on the Road at Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.—CSUN Women's Basketball fell to Minnesota, 84-31, on Wednesday at Williams Arena. Kayanna Spriggs finished with a team-high 12 points, one shy of her career high, and made 6-of-9 shots to go with eight rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Minnesota started the game with a layup, but Kayanna Spriggs quickly answered for the Matadors to even the score. Minnesota took back the lead by going on a five-point run before Spriggs connected once more with a layup. Spriggs scored CSUN's first six points to bring the Matadors to within 9-6 before Minnesota went on a 12-0 run to open the lead. Arina Nikishina put CSUN back on the board with a jumper, but Minnesota closed the quarter with a 7-0 run to lead 28-8.
CSUN tried to keep up but missed its first five shots in the second quarter as Minnesota continued to pull away for a 39-8 lead. The Matadors continued to fight and received a three from Laney Amundsen and a late layup from Amiyah Ferguson. Minnesota though made four threes in the second period to build a 50-15 lead at halftime.
Nikishina opened the third quarter with a jumper while Spriggs provided the offense with six points in the period. CSUN received jumpers from Kaitlyn Elsholz and Talo Li-Uperesa as the Matadors had their best shooting quarter in the third by going 7-of-15. However, Minnesota outscored CSUN 18-14 and led 68-29 through three periods. The Golden Gophers would control the fourth period, holding CSUN to one field goal. Rachel Harvey ended the Matadors' scoring for the night with a late jumper in the final minute.

- CSUN falls to 2-3 on the season while Minnesota improves to a 4-1 record.
- CSUN had a 25.5 field-goal percentage, making 14 out of 55 shots while Minnesota shot 48.4 percent, hitting 31-of-64 attempts.
- The Gophers made 8-of-25 threes (32.0 percent) and 14-of-24 free throws (58.3 percent). In contrast, CSUN went 1-of-17 from three (5.9 percent) and 2-of-2 at the free throw line.
- Minnesota led in the rebounding department, 52-26
