CSUN returns to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Indoor Track and Field Championships this week for the first time since 2020.Â
Â
The MPSF Indoor Track and Field Championships celebrates its 30th year of competition with the 2023 championship meet, contested on Friday and Saturday. After 18 consecutive years at the University of Washington, the MPSF Championship relocated across the state last year to "The Podium" in Spokane, which opened in December 2021.Â
Â
This year's MPSF Championships features 17 teams, increased from 14 in 2022 with the additions of the Pepperdine women and the CSUN men and women. Eleven women's and six men's teams across 10 universities from members of the Big West and West Coast Conferences will compete for conference titles. In addition, BYU, Cal State Fullerton, CSUN, Long Beach State, Portland, and UC Riverside will compete on the men's side.Â
Â
Those six schools will also compete in MPSF Women's competition, in addition to Hawai'i, Pepperdine, UC Irvine, UC Davis, and the University of San Francisco.
Â
The BYU men made it three-straight conference titles last year with 190 points, 50 ahead of second-place Long Beach State (140). The 2022 Cougar women, meanwhile, won their first-ever MPSF title by 110 points over the Beach as the next closest competitor (218-108).
Â
The BYU women are ranked 23rd in the current USTFCCCA Top 25 Indoor Poll.
