CSUN Track & Field Embarks on MPSF Championships

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Track & Field will compete at the 2024 MPSF Indoor Championships starting Sunday at the Podium in Spokane, Wash.
Running events will begin at 10:30 a.m. followed by field events at 2 p.m. on Sunday. On day two, running events kick off at 9:00 a.m. and field competition at 9:30 a.m. on Monday morning. The two-day championship event will stream on FloSports with a subscription.

LAST TIME OUT
CSUN last competed at the Howie Ryan Invitational on Feb. 9. CSUN's male sprinters posted two top-10 finishes in the 200m with David Phillips, Jr. finishing second with a time of :21.01 while Chase Mars was third at :21.38. Mars also had a strong showing in the 60m preliminaries with a time of :6.71 to come in fourth at the event. In the throws, Guillermo Lopez came in third in the shot put with a toss of 16.02m (52-6.75) while Elijah Ignacio was 10th in the same event with a toss of 14.88m (48-10). In distance, Noah Contreras finished fifth in the 600 yard with a time of 1:13.61 followed by Atticus Hall in sixth place at 1:13.88.
On the women's side, Arianna Alexander finished third in the 60m preliminaries with a time of :7.52 while Kaliyah Poston was fifth at :7.55. In distance races, Nicole Contreras was third in the mile run with a time of 5:07.10 and Leann Hamilton was eighth with a PR time of 5:15.43. Conteras also was seventh in the 800m with a time of 2:18.36. In jumps, Anastasia Bampali was fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 12.25m (40-2.25).
THE MPSF FIELD
A total of 12 teams will compete at this year's 2004 MPSF Indoor Championship, which includes CSUN, Cal State Fullerton, Hawai'i, Long Beach State, Pepperdine, Portland, San Francisco, Saint Mary's, UC Davis, UC Irvine and UC Riverside.
A LOOK BACK AT 2023 MPSF'S
CSUN is looking to build off a strong showing at the MPSF Championships last season. The Matadors competed at the conference championships for the first time in three seasons in 2023 as the men's team finished fourth and women's team came in 10th place. The fourth-place finish for the men was the team's best finish since 2001 while the CSUN women had their highest finish at the MPSF Championships since 2011.
The Matador men's team swept the sprint events with Logan Davis winning the 60m dash with a school-record :6.64 and the 400m dash with a time of :47.23. Davis became the first CSUN entry to win two individual events at the MPSF's since 2004. David Phillips, Jr. took home the 200m title with a sprint time of :21.02.
Arianna Alexander paced the CSUN women with a fourth-place finish in the 60m in a time of :7.49 last season. She also finished sixth in the 200m at a time of :24.46.
SEASON BESTS
David Phillips, Jr.'s 200m time of :21.02 is a season-best in the MPSF. Logan Davis holds the best 400m dash time of :47.23. Trey Knight, who broke the school record in the weight throw on Jan. 12, holds the top mark of 22.17m this season.
