CSUN Cards Second Round 284, Moves up to Eighth in Palm Desert

PALM DESERT, Calif. - The CSUN men's golf team posted a 15-shot improvement from round one to Wednesday's second round as the Matadors moved up from 12th into eighth after two rounds of the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate at The Classic Club.
The Matadors, who opened the day tied with Southern Utah at 298, fired a 4-under 284 and head into the final round at 6-over 582. Grand Canyon continued to hold the team lead, sitting at 18-under 558 after 36 holes. GCU's Nicky Kling moved past teammate Gavin O'Neill into the individual lead at 8-under 136.
CSUN's Antoine Sale, who began the day tied for second at 3-under 69, carded an even-par 72 on Wednesday to slip into a tie for seventh at 3-under 141. Sale had three birdies, 12 pars and three bogeys to finish the day at even-par.

"We still left some shots out there today, but we made a 15-shot improvement from the first round so we obviously played better as a team. This is how we should be playing and we have one more round tomorrow and I'd love to see us move up a few more spots tomorrow."
The Matadors will be paired with Seattle for the final round which gets underway Thursday morning off the No. 7 and No. 8 tees at 9 a.m.

- The rest of the CSUN lineup each posted an improvement from round one to round two as Felix Schrott had three birdies and a single bogey in a round of 2-under which moved him into a tie for 32nd at 1-over 145.
- Eirik Thomassen also had a virtually errorless round with a pair of birdies and one bogey in finishing at 1-under 71. Thomassen is tied for 51st at 4-over 148 heading into the final round. Thomas Burou posted a six-shot improvement with a team-high six birdies on Wednesday. Burou, who got his round as low as 4-under, is also tied for 51st at 4-over 148.
- Brandon McDonough is tied for 77th at 8-over 152 following rounds of 77-75 while individuals Dillon Jonke and Liam Judkins are 93rd and 97th respectively. Jonke followed up a round of 75 on Tuesday with a 9-over 81 on Wednesday while Judkins followed up a first round 78 with an 8-over 80 in round two.
