CSUN's Knight and Phillips Set School Records During Busy Weekend

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Track & Field completed two meets this weekend highlighted by a pair of school records. The Matadors had two student-athletes compete at the UC Riverside Spring Classic Multis on Thursday and a full team compete at the USC Ron & Sharlene Allice Trojan Invitational from Friday to Saturday.
Trey Knight shattered the hammer throw school record and posted a top-five world mark while David Phillips, Jr. set a new CSUN mark in the 200m. In all, CSUN boasted four first-place finishes on the weekend.
UCR Spring Classic Multis
CSUN sent Brianna Kelpis and Audrie Reuss to compete in the heptathlon. Kelpis, who competed unattached, finished in fourth place with 4703 points while Reuss cracked the top-10 with an eighth-place finish at 4218 points. Kelpis' best finish would come in the shot put where she came in first place with a toss of 12.59m (41-4.75). Reuss had her top finish in the javelin throw, finishing sixth with a toss of 31.88m (104-7), while she had personal bests in the 100m-hurdles (16.07), shot put (10.24m, 33-7.25) and 200m (27.68).
Ron & Sharlene Allice Trojan Invitational
MEN
Knight broke CSUN's all-time outdoor hammer throw record with a toss of 76.36m (250-6). That throw ranks as the fifth-best in the world for the year while it ranks among the top-25 of U.S. marks all-time. Joseph Alipranti would also reach the top-10 in school history with the ninth-best hammer throw mark of 60.72m (199-2) to finish in third place at the event.
On Saturday, Phillips made school history in the 200m where he set a new program mark of 20.51 to win the race. With his school record, Phillips now owns the indoor and outdoor 200m records at CSUN. Chase Mars would finish in third in the 200m with a time of 20.81, good for fourth-best in school history, while James Crawford was fourth at 21.00, which ranks 10th on the all-time CSUN list.
Dillon Peters won the triple jump with a leap of 15.69m (51-5.75), good for eighth-best in school history. Bryson Williams finished just behind Peters in second place with a PR of 15.58m (51-1.50).
CSUN's 4x100 relay team took first place on Saturday with the group of Tosh Black, Phillips, Crawford and Mars posting a time of 39.75. That mark is the second-fastest in program history. In other relays, the 4x400 team of Chris Pitts, De Marq Jaque, Xavier Bradford and Ehinome Inegbenoise finished second with a time of 3:14.92.
In the 100m, Mars finished second with the fourth-best time in school history at 10.33. Phillips cracked the top three at the event with a time of 10.36 to come in third place. CSUN had two others top-10 finishes at the event in Black (eighth, 10.68) and Joey Nations (ninth, 10.85).
In the 400m, Pitts posted a time of 46.93 to finish in second place followed by Jaque in fourth (47.92), Gabe Martinez in fifth (48.22), Inegbenoise in eighth (49.23) and Luke DaVanon in ninth place (49.42).
Other standouts included Tzu-Ting Chan was second in the long jump with a PR of 7.06m (23-2) while Nations was third at 6.95m (22-9.75) and Williams was sixth at 6.78m (22-3). Zavion Harper took third place in the 110m-hurdles with a time of 14.65. In the discus throw, Santiago Cerda was third with a PR of 45.70m (149-11) followed by Tui Edwin in seventh place with a PR of 43.16m (141-7). Guillermo Lopez was fourth in the shot put with a toss of 15.98m (52-5.25) while Atticus Hall paced the Matadors in the 1500m with a PR time of 3:57.09. Camilo Torres also had a PR in the 1500 with a time of 4:01.63 to finish seventh.
WOMEN
Kaliyah Poston was one of the top Matador women performers on the weekend, posting a time of 11.89 in the 100m to finish in second place. Arianna Alexander was a close third in the same event with a time of 11.97 while Ciella Seals was fourth (12.10) and Sy'Rai Yarborough was seventh (12.74).
Emily Hutchinson also finished second in the shot put with a PR of 14.72m (48-3.50) followed by Katherine Shipp-Davis in fifth place at 12.77m (41-10.75), Amani Britton in sixth place at 12.32m (40-5), Jocelyn Hoggard in seventh place at 11.72m (38-5.50) and Treasure Brown in ninth place at 10.91m (35-9.50).
In the 100m-hurdles, Genesis Washington finished in third with a new PR of 14.48 and Charis Wondercheck was in sixth place with a time of 15.35. Leann Hamilton posted a PR as well in the 800m with a time of 2:15.05 to finish in third place while Nicole Contreras was fourth (2:15.85) and Rachael Simpson was eighth (2;20.92).
Alba Moreno Paredes finished in third place in the high jump, posting a mark of 1.60m (5-3) while Naomi Sachs was a close fourth at 1.55m (5-1).
Other CSUN standours included Hannah Urgino who finished fourth in the 400 dash with a time of 1:03.79. Shipp-Davis was fifth to lead CSUN in the discus with a PR toss of 49.45m (162-3) while Britton also had a PR at the same event to finish seventh at 46.59m (152-10). Jayden Lopes was fifth in the 400m-hurdles with a time of 1:04.72 followed by Wondercheck in seventh (1:06.57) and Genesis Washington in eighth (1:07.16). In the 3000m, Nicole Contreras paced CSUN with a time of 10:44.13 to finish sixth and Elin Markarian was seventh with a PR time of 10:45.19.
