CSUN Hits the Road for Duals at #14 UCLA, Pacific and UC Davis

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Women's Tennis hits the road for three duals this week. The Matadors visit No. 14 UCLA on Wednesday at 10 a.m. before taking on Pacific on Saturday at 11 a.m. and UC Davis on Sunday at 11 a.m. in a Big West match. CSUN's match with UCLA will be streamed and a link can be found at GoMatadors.com.
BIG PICTURE
CSUN comes in with a 10-2 overall record and 4-0 mark in Big West play. The Matadors are currently atop The Big West standings with their 4-0 record while Hawai'i (5-0) and UC Santa Barbara (1-0) are also unbeaten in conference action. CSUN's 4-0 start to Big West play is the program's first since the 2008 season.
ABOUT LAST WEEK
CSUN completed a perfect 3-0 week including picking up a tight Big West win on the road in last week's action. The Matadors blanked both Chaminade (7-0) and Westmont College (4-0) in a pair of home duals last Tuesday at Matador Tennis Complex before winning a tight 4-3 decision on the road at Cal State Fullerton, 4-3, on Thursday.
CSUN saw contributions across the board against Chaminade and Westmont. Vitoria Solis Urdiales made her first appearance of the spring and won a pair of singles matches while CIndy Ung notched a pair of singles wins in her first singles competition of 2024. Sofia Demenjyan would make her first appearance of the season as well and picked up a victory over Westmont.
Facing the Titans on Thursday, CSUN rallied from losing the doubles point to post four of six wins in singles action. At No. 4, Emma Moratalla Sanz won in straight sets over ranked Natalie Duffy 6-4, 7-5 while Angela Ho won at No. 5 in straight sets 6-4, 6-4. Nicole West would rally from a set one loss to claim a 2-6 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 6 and Victoria Santibañez Luna outlasted Seha Yu at No. 3 (3-6, 7-5, 6-4) to clinch the match.
TOP PERFORMERS
Emma Moratalla Sanz and Victoria Santibañez Luna top the Matadors with seven wins apiece in dual singles play while Yuliia Zhytelna and Nicole West have six wins each. Santibañez Luna has a team-high four wins in conference action with no losses. Angela Ho has gone 5-1 in singles play this season with a 3-0 mark against Big West opponents.
In doubles play, Ho and Elena Goodman have racked up a 7-1 record at No. 3 this season while the tandem of Santibañez Luna and Cindy Ung have gone 7-2 while primarily playing at No. 2.
ABOUT UCLA
The 14th-ranked Bruins are 11-4 overall with a 5-1 mark in Pac-12 play. UCLA holds a perfect 8-0 record at home on the season. In 2023, the Bruins went 15-8 overall last season and advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament. Tian Fangran, who won the singles national championship last season, tops the team with a 10-2 record in dual play while she is ranked 31st in the nation. Kimmi Hance is also ranked nationally at No. 32 as she comes in with a 6-3 record in dual play. Fangran and Elise Wagle come in with a 5-3 doubles record along with a No. 43 national ranking.
ABOUT PACIFIC
The Tigers are 9-5 overall this season with a 1-2 record in the West Coast Conference. The team has won six of its last seven and hold a perfect 3-0 record against Big West teams in Hawai'i, UC Davis and UC San Diego. Pacific posted a 7-12 overall record last season. Klara Kosan has registered a 9-4 record all at the No. 1 position this season while Indiya McLeod has gone 9-2 on the year while playing at the No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 spots. The team's No. 1 doubles duo of Kosan and Tomi Main are 9-5 on the season.

The Aggies hold a 7-11 overall record with a 3-4 Big West mark. In last week's action, the Aggies beat UC San Diego 4-3 and Hawai'i Pacific 4-1 before falling to Hawai'i 4-3. UC Davis went 8-14 overall last season and 3-6 in conference play. Mika Ikemori tops the Aggies with a 10-5 singles record in dual play. The No. 2 tandem of Daisy Maunupau and Olive Maunupau are 9-5 on the season while Ikemori and Arianna Stavropoulos have gone 8-1 this season at No. 1.
