LOOKING TO DEFEND THE CROWN
CSUN sends a pair of defending champions to the 2026 Big West Track & Field Championships this week. Summer Mosley was a double champion last year, winning the women's discus and hammer throw titles, however, she will look to repeat solely as discus champion in 2026. Her discus win in 2025 was CSUN's first Big West title win in the event since Brianna Cueva in 2017, as Mosley took first at 53.51m (175-7). In the men's triple jump, Jay Louison-Roe won the event with a mark of 15.67m (51-5), securing the Matadors' third straight triple jump title and fifth in six years overall. Both Mosley and Louison-Roe are ranked first in the Big West this year in their respective events. Â
WE'RE TALKING ABOUT RANKINGS
CSUN's men's track & field team checks in at sixth in the Big West, according to USTFCCCA TFRI Outdoor Checkpoint rankings. The squad is also ranked 12th in the region and 142nd nationally. The Matador men also are up to sixth in the discus, 17th in the triple jump and 23rd in the shot put in the Event Squad Summary.Â
On the women's side, the team is ranked ninth in the Big West along with 25th in the region and 91st nationally. CSUN's discus throwers are now ranked seventh in the nation.Â
Individually, Summer Mosley leads the Big West in the women's discus with her mark of 57.76m (189-6), which ranks 13th-best in the nation. On the men's side, Jay Louison-Roe holds the best Big West triple jump mark at 15.81m (51-10.5) while Kyriaun Davis leads in the discus at 57.63m (189-1) and Walter Pierce is tops in the 400m with a time of 46.11.Â
SHIPP-DAVIS PICKS UP BIG WEST HONORS
CSUN's senior thrower Katherine Shipp-Davis picked up her first career Big West Field Athlete of the Week award on May 12 following a pair of standout performances at the Titan Tune-Up on May 8. The Lake Elsinore native won the discus event with a toss of 53.06m (174-1) while she was a runner-up in the shot put with her mark of 14.05m (46-1.25). Overall, Shipp-Davis is ranked second in the Big West in the discus this season (53.66m/176-0) along with fifth in the shot put (14.91m/48-11) heading into this week's conference championship.Â
Other Matador Big West Athlete of the Week winners this season include Summer Mosley who won the women's field award on April 21. Kyriaun Davis also collected the men's field athlete of the week honor on May 2.Â
MAKING MATADOR HISTORY
Two women's records and one men's record have been broken this season for CSUN. On the women's side, Summer Mosley broke the school record in the discus at the Mt. SAC Relays on April 17 with a mark of 57.40m (188-4). However, that record would not stand for long, as she shattered that mark with a PR of 57.76m (189-6) at the Steve Scott Invitational on May 2. Lilit Arakelyan also reset the record book in the 3000m-steeplechase with a school best time of 10:41.91 at the Bryan Clay Invitational on April 16. On the men's team, Kyriaun Davis broke a 42-year old discus record with his throw of 57.63m (189-1) at the Steve Scott Invitational.Â
Overall, CSUN has posted nine men's and five women's all-time top-10 school performances this season. At last week's Titan Tune-Up, Walter Pierce set a PR with the second-best 400m performance in school history, running at 46.11. James Crawford also posted a new PR in the 100m, running at 10.26 for the third-best time in program history.Â
UP NEXT
