CSUN Men and Women Finish Eighth at Big West Championship

KAHUKU, Hawai'i - The CSUN men's and women's cross country teams each finished in eighth place Saturday at the Big West Championship at Kahuku Golf Course in Hawai'i.
The Matador women were eighth out of nine teams while the men were also eighth among the eight competing schools.
Charlie Nettle had the best finish of either CSUN squad as he finished 15th among 63 runners in a time of 25:42.1. On the women's side, Rachel Naumann covered the 6k course in 23:25.2 which was good for 33rd place.
The Matador women tallied 224 points while running an average time of 24:09.58. The men's squad scored 220 points on an average time of 27:10.62.
After Naumann's 33rd place finish, Rachael Duriez finished 41st (23:41.0), Katie Alvarenga finished 52nd (24:14.8), Jasmine Vasquez finished 59th (24:42.3), Cynthia Martinez finished 60th (24:44.6), Bianca Frausto finished 68th (25:41.0), Kimberly Newton finished 70th (25:57.9) and Cynthia Kelso finished 71st (26:13.2).
After Nettle, Manuel Vargas finished 45th (26:59.0), Michael Merchan finished 49th (27:21.2), Ricardo Garcia finished 53rd (27:47.2), Luis Munoz finished 54th (28:03.6), Elias Powell finished 55th (28:08.5), Mario Ramirez finished 58th (28:37.5), James Silva finished 60th (28:55.9) and Santiago Gomez finished 62nd (29:30.9).
The Matadors will next compete at the NCAA West Regional which will be held Nov. 11 at Haggin Oaks Golf Course in Sacramento.
