IRVINE, Calif.—The CSUN men's and women's track and field teams continued the 2021 Big West Championship Friday at Anteater Stadium on the campus of UC Irvine.

"We competed extremely well today. We posted a lot of season bests, but more importantly, we had several athletes advance to the finals."

The Big West Championship concludes Saturday. The meet begins at 11 a.m. with the men's triple jump. The first final is set for noon and is the women's 4x100m relay.

IRVINE, Calif.—The CSUN men's and women's track and field teams continued the 2021 Big West Championship Friday at Anteater Stadium on the campus of UC Irvine.
Â
MEN
- Mathieu Tshani posted a leap of 22-9 3/4 on his third attempt of the long jump preliminaries to advance to the finals. Sitting outside the top eight entering his sixth and final attempt, Tshani uncorked a career-best 24-3 leap to earn third place.Â
- Isaiah Rucker cleared 6-5 to advance to the third round of the high jump. Rucker failed to make 6-7 and would earn an eighth-place finish to score the first point of the meet for the Matadors.
- Ahmed Mohamed charted a 21-1 1/4 performance in the preliminaries of the long jump. He would end up 18th overall.
- De Marq Jaque posted a time of :49.02 to qualify for the finals of the 400m.Â
- Eric Vivanco ran :49.51 in the preliminaries of the 400m. He was a little under 2/10's from advancing to the finals as he came in 10th
- Day'Marr Johnson sped to a time of :11.20 in the 100m prelims. His time was 15th overall and did not advance to the finals.
- Quinn Garity advanced to the finals of the 800m by running a time of 1:55.44. His performance was the eighth fastest overall and is among the top-10 in school history by a freshman in the race.
- CSUN has scored seven points as a team and are eighth. Long Beach State (95) leads the way.
WOMEN
- Senior Sonsoles Barba recorded a career-best 19-8 3/4 on her third attempt of the preliminaries of the long jump. That mark would stand up through the finals and would earn Barba a second place showing.
- Junior Aaryn Smith posted a career-best 17-0 in her first attempt of the long jump preliminaries, but she did not advance to the finals of the event. Sameerah Evans went 16-4 1/2 during the long jump prelims, but she did not advance.
- Kyrasani Mitchell recorded a toss of 33-9 1/2 during her third attempt of the shot put preliminaries but she did not advance and placed 21st overall. Lillian McCoy fouled on each of her three attempts in the shot.
- Brisa Guzman-Sanchez's :13.69 was the fastest time of the 100m hurdles. A senior, Guzman Sanchez's career-best time just missed the CSUN Top-10 by 6/10's of a second.
- Freshman Ouanessa Nana recorded a season-best time in the 800m of 2:21.00 which placed her 17th in the preliminaries of the race. She did not advance to the finals.
- Taylor Thames did not finish her start in the 100m preliminaries.
- The Matador women have scored 12 points and sit in eighth. Cal Poly leads the way with 82.5 points.
