Kyle Merchen started all 11 matches at setter while appearing in all 41 sets in his abbreviated first season at CSUN ... led the Matadors and ranked third in the Big West with an 8.93 assists per set average after posting 366 assists in 41 sets ... was named to the Big West All-Freshman Team becoming the fifth CSUN freshman named to the team since 2018 ... posted 61 digs (1.49 dps) which ranked 16th among Big West players ... also had 20 kills, five aces and seven blocks over 41 sets ... handed out a season-high 49 assists along with a season-high eught kills and seven digs at No. 13 UC San Diego (Apr. 3) ... had 39 assists and a season-high eight digs in CSUN's first round Big West Tournament loss to UC San Diego (Apr. 22) ... recorded 45 assists, five kills, two digs and a pair of blocks in the Matadors' 3-2 upset win over No. 7 Long Beach State (Apr. 16).
SANTA BARBARA CITY COLLEGE -Â 2020
Merchen played the 2020 season for coach John Newton at Santa Barbara City College ... started at setter and was a team captain for the Vaqueros who finished the abbreviated season with a 10-2 record ... averaged 8.38 assists per set along with 0.81digs and 0.30 blocks per set while playing in all 10 matches ... posted a season-high 51 assists to go with six digs and four kills in SBCC's 3-2 win at Fullerton College ... accumulated a 3.2 grade point average.
