Kamalu Makekau-Whittaker is in her first season playing beach volleyball at CSUN ... played in a total of four matches and seven sets for the Matador indoor team in the fall of 2016.

Makekau-Whittaker lettered all four years at Kamehameha Schools in Keaau, Hawai'i ... earned first team All-Big Island Interscholastic Federation (BIIF) in 2013, 2014 and 2015 ... the Warriors won the BIIF championship three times from 2012-14 ... also trained with the USA Volleyball National Training Team in 2014 and 2015 ... also competed in swimming and track ... was a Principal's List and National Honor Society recipient ... graduated in 2016 with a 3.5 grade point average.

Born September 25, 1998 in Honolulu, Hawai'i ... parents are Roxanne and Kalani Makekau-Whittaker ... has two younger sisters, Laiali'i and Kamaawakea ... both parents attended the University of Hawai'i-Manoa ... was also recruited by Cal State Fullerton, UC Davis, Utah, Colorado and UNLV ... favorites include LeBron James, actress Taraji P. Henson, the TV show "Empire" and the movie "Legally Blonde" ... says she chose CSUN "because of the amazing coaches and the programs' accomplishments" ... says the best thing about being an athlete is "always having your team and coaches as a second family" ... plans on majoring in Geology.
