NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—The CSUN men's and women's track and field teams head to Albuquerque, New Mexico for the Don Kirby Collegiate Invitational this weekend.
The Don Kirby Collegiate Invitational begins Friday at 3:00 p.m. with competition in the long jump, pole vault, and the weight throw. Saturday's field action begins at 9:30 a.m. with the women's shot put followed by the women's pole vault.
The Matadors are coming off a pair of very solid performances at the UW Invitational (Jan 25-26th) and at the New Mexico Collegiate Invitational where they excelled on the same track just two weeks ago (Jan 26th). CSUN registered two wins that weekend and broke two school records in the process. On the women's side, senior Sydney Mosley tied the school record in the Women's 60m Hurdles with a time of 8.36, and freshman Lena Kandissounon, cracked the top three in the school record books for the Women's 800m with a time of 2:09.38, grabbing first place.
On the men's side senior Erick Loomis scored a fourth-place finish in the Men's Weight Throw at the UW Invitational, but his distance of 20.58m broke the CSUN record, cementing his spot in the record books. Freshman Bashiru Abdullahi broke a school record and tallied a second place finish in the Men's 60m Hurdles with a time of 7.89. Antonio Garcia followed him with a third place finish, and a time good enough for sixth in the school records (8.05).
