Freshmen Come Up Big for Matadors at Don Kirby Collegiate Invitational

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -This weekend saw continued competition for the 2019 men's and women's track and field teams as CSUN traveled back to New Mexico this time for the Don Kirby Collegiate Invitational.
HIGHLIGHTS:
600 Meters
Women: De'Andreah Young, 8th (1:37.69)
Men: Brenden Scott, 4th (1:22.69)
800 Meters
Women: Lena Kandissounon, 1st (2:09.58)
60 Meter Hurdles
Men: Bashiru Abdullahi, 5th (7.89), Antonio Garcia, 7th (7.99)
Shot Put
Men: Clint Meyer, 3rd (18.26m)
Triple Jump
Men: Matthew Arnold, 3rd (15.25m)
Weight Throw
Men: Erick Loomis, 4th (19.89m)

"Overall, I thought we competed well as a team. We had a number of standout performances as too. The Men's Hurdles, Women's 800m, and Men's Shot Put were amazing.The squads responded really well to coming back to New Mexico, their prior experience really helped them to elevate their performances.

The Matadors return to indoor action for the MPSF Indoor Championships in Seattle, Wash on Feb. 22.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Freshman Lena Kandissounon, grabbed her second consecutive first-place finish with a time of 2:09.58. She managed to get first place the two times she has ran the New Mexico course this season.
- Freshman Bashiru Abdullahi, managed fifth place in the Men's 60m Hurdles, with a time of 7.89. His preliminary time of 7.75 was was good enough to best the school record that he himself broke two weeks ago on the same course(7.89). Abdullahi is ranked 16th in the country for the 60m Hurdles.
- Clint Meyer grabbed third-place in the Men's Shot Put. He achieved a new personal best of 18.26m, his distance is good enough for second all-time in Matadors history.
- Matthew Arnold achieved a third-place finish in the Men's Triple Jump. His distance of 15.25m is good enough for Top-5 in CSUN history.
- Senior Erick Loomis, scored a fourth-place finish in the Men's Weight Throw Friday. His distance of 19.89m was just behind third-place finishers' Kevin Cooney of Northern Arizona who threw for 19.92m.
- Senior Brenden Scott, made fourth-place in the Men's 600m with a time of 1:22.69
