2 CSUN Entries Advance To NCAA Nationals

Day 1 Results
SACRAMENTO, Calif.—A new school record on the men's side highlighted a pair of national qualifying performances for the CSUN Men's and Women's Track and Field teams on opening day of the NCAA Division I West Regional Thursday.

MEN
Erick Loomis opened the meet by resetting his own school record in the hammer throw with a toss of 225-1. Loomis' performance earned him a third-place finish and a ticket to the NCAA Division I Track & Field Championships on June 5 in Austin, Texas (4 p.m. CDT/2 p.m. PDT). Gleb Dudarev of Kansas (243-5) won the event.

WOMEN
Freshman Stella Weinberg qualified for the national meet in the javelin. Weinberg, the Big West and CSUN record holder in the javelin, finished seventh (164-1) to earn her way to Austin. Stanford's Jenna Gray (180-9) won the javelin. The women's javelin will take place June 6 at 8:15 p.m. CDT/6:15 p.m. PDT.

Freshman Maelle Douville competed in the javelin on Thursday but her best of 134-1 did not advance her to nationals.

Sophomore De'Andreah Young advanced to the quarterfinals of the 400m hurdles with a time of :58.57 which tied her for 15th with Kate Sorensen of Weber State. The quarters are set for Friday night at 7 p.m.

Immanuela Aliu advances to the quarterfinals in the women's 100m as she runs :11.62 to tie for 22nd with Baylor's Sydney Washington. The 100m quarters will be run Friday at 6 p.m.

Lena Kandissounon just missed advancing in the 800m. Kandissounon was fourth in her heat, as the top three moved on. She ran a time of 2:07.94.

"Today was a very productive day for our teams. I am very proud of the efforts that Erick and Stella put forth as both punched their tickets to the final round of the NCAA Championships. De'Andreah and Immanuela both advanced to the finals of their respective events. Lena, our freshman, made a critical tactical error in her efforts to advance in the 800m. We are disappointed that she will not be moving forward, but she is young and talented and will only get better."
