CSUN Track & Field Kicks Off 2026 Indoor Season on Friday

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Track & Field officially kicks off the 2026 indoor season this weekend at the Nevada Invitational. The two-day meet will be held from Jan. 16-17 at Reno-Sparks Convention Center in Reno, Nev. Live video will be available on the Mountain West Network.Â
This season represents the 33rd indoor season for CSUN's men's and women's squads. The Matador men's team consists of 30 returners and 12 newcomers while the women's team features 22 letterwinners and 20 newcomers.Â

CSUN has entered the following men's athletes to Nevada Invitational: Thomas Achten, Matthew Browner, Layne Buck, Isaiah Butler, Tzu-Ting Chan, Tylor Connelly, James Crawford, Cesar Cuevas, Adam Divinity, Tui Edwin, Daniel Harper, Elijah Ignacio, Francisco Isiordia, Gabe Martinez, Tibyasa Matovu, Joey Nations, Walter Pierce, Elijah Stenberg, Wyatt Wiggins, Jr. and Terence Williams.Â
On the women's side, the Matadors will send the following athletes to Reno: Amani Britton, Kahlai Cruser, Savannah Ganter, Serena Grace, Zola Grey, Camryn Harris, Jasmine Haskell, Jocelyn Hoggard, Emily Hutchinson, Makyla Jones, Jayden Lopes, Trystin Mitchell, Nadia Munoz, Amaya Rice, Naomi Sachs, Katherine Shipp-Davis, Chandler Smith, Simone Smith, Brianna Torres and Brianna Wells.Â
LAST TIME IN RENO
No strangers to Reno, CSUN returns to Nevada this season after taking part in two separate meets at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center last season. A number of Matadors took home first-place honors at the 2025 Nevada Invitational, highlighted by returner Tibyasa Matovu winning both the 400m (46.91) and the long jump (7.48m/24-6.5) events. Joey Nations took home the 60m title as well and the 4x400m relay team consisting of Walter Pierce, Luke DaVanon, Wyatt Wiggins, Jr., and Matovu set a then school record time of 3:11.70 to take first place. The Matadors returned to Nevada for the Wolf Pack Classic later in the season, boasting first-place finishes for Tylor Connelly in the weight throw (17.53m/57-6.25), Jay Louison-Roe in the triple jump (15.32m/50-3.25), Elijah Ignacio in the shot put (17.35m/56-11.25) and James Crawford in the 200m (20.93).Â
A LOOK AT THE SCHEDULE
After competing in Nevada this weekend, the Matadors will set sights on the Don Kirby Invitational, hosted by the Universtity of New Mexico from Feb. 13-14 in Albuquerque, N.M. From there, CSUN will make the return trip to Reno to compete at the 2025 MPSF Championships from March 1-2.Â
