CSUN Track & Field Has Standout Performances in Final Meet Before MPSF's

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.---CSUN Track & Field wrapped up a two-day meet on Saturday at New Mexico's Don Kirby Elite Invitational. The Matadors boasted six all-time top-10 performances at the meet as CSUN gears up for the MPSF Indoor Championships in March.Â
TOP WOMEN'S PERFORMANCES
Emily Hutchinson led the way for the CSUN women with a pair of fourth-place finishes over the weekend. On Friday, Hutchinson was fourth in the weight throw, throwing at 18.21m (59-9) while she was fourth as well in the shot put on Saturday with a personal-best mark of 15.28m (50-1.75). Hutchinson's shot put toss ranks tied for sixth-best in the Matadors' indoor history. Katherine Shipp-Davis was 13th in the weight throw at 16.59m (54-5.25) followed by Myli Level in 15th place with a PR of 16.31m (53-6.25).Â
Ashleigh Porter set a new PR in the high jump, tying for eighth place with a mark of 1.66m (5-5.25). That mark ranks 10th-best in CSUN indoor history. Naomi Sachs was also tied for 19th in the event with a mark of 1.61m (5-3.25).Â
In the 3000m, Lilit Arakelyan took 11th place by running at 10:35.32 followed by Ami Jacobson in 13th place with a personal record of 10:40.61.Â
The CSUN women's 4x400m team of Trystin Mitchell, Jayden Lopes, Brianna Wells and Serena Grace took 11th place out of 16 teams as the quartet ran at 3:45.73. Grace also set the sixth-best indoor 200m mark in school history, finishing 15th overall with a time of 24.10. She wrapped up the meet with a 14th-place finish in the 400m as well, setting a PR of 55.65.Â
TOP MEN'S PERFORMANCES
Tylor Connelly took third place in the weight throw, posting a mark of 19.57m (64-2.5). Isaiah Butler set a PR in the same event with a toss of 16.84m (55-3).Â
Walter Pierce paced CSUN with one of the top 400m indoor performances in school history. Pierce was fourth in the event, running at 46.82, good enough for second-best in CSUN's indoor history. In the 200m, Pierce again led the way, notching another PR at 21.30, which ranks eighth-best in the CSUN record book.Â
In other sprint races, Caleb Harrell was ninth overall in the 60m, clocking in at 6.86.Â
Elijah Ignacio took ninth place in the shot put, throwing at 16.40m (53-9.75). Tui Edwin was right behind in 13th place, setting a PR of 15.70m (51-6.25).Â
Camilo Torres was the lone CSUN participant in the 3000m as he was 11th overall with a time of 8:45.77.Â
In the 400m invite event, Tibyasa Matovu finished 13th by running at 47.03.Â

- Savannah Ganter led the way in the women's mile run at 5:25.60, claiming 22nd place followed by Sakura Divecchio in 32nd place at 5:34.66.Â
- Simone Smith competed in the triple jump, setting a PR of 12.06m (39-7) to take 24th place.Â
- Amaya Rice was 26th in the 200m, running at 24.32 on the day. That mark ranks ninth-best in school history.Â
- Chandler Smith was one-of-six CSUN representatives in the long jump as she led the way with a 31st place finish at 5.47m (17-11.5).Â
- Ganter was also 43rd in the women's 800m at 2:31.96, setting a new PR.Â
- In the men's 800m, Raul Verges was the top Matador at 1:54.71 to finish 16th overall in the field. Ja'Patrick Smith also competed in the event, setting a new PR of 1:56.12 to take 23rd place.Â
- Layne Buck was the top CSUN performer in the men's long jump, posting a new PR of 7.00m (22-11.75). Also, Matthew Browner took 29th place in the event at 6.87m (22-6.5).Â
