2014
Anthony Cortez made 23 appearances out of the bullpen in his sophomore season at CSUN. He went 2-0 with a team-best 2.42 ERA in 26.0 innings. Cortez notched 24 strikeouts and walked 16 batters in 2014. His longest outing was 3.1 innings in the team's win at Pepperdine (3/25) and he struck out three batters in a game three different times.
2013
Cortez was used exclusively in relief in his first season with the Matadors and appeared in 18 games. In 14.0 innings on the mound, Cortez had 18 strikeouts while walking just seven batters. He notched one save on the year and had an impressive 1.29 ERA out of the bullpen. His longest outing of the year came on May 17th at Cal Poly as the freshman struck out a career-high five batters in 3.1 innings.
DOWNEY HIGH SCHOOL
Cortez competed as a pitcher and outfielder for the Vikings for four seasons. He served as a team captain as a senior and earned three varsity letters. As a senior, Cortez was named as a Co-MVP of the San Gabriel Valley League and was chosen as an All-League First Team selection.
