Michael Coates appeared in 21 games, all out of the bullpen, for the Matadors in his senior season. Coates went 1-0 with a 6.11 ERA in 28.0 innings. He struck out 24 batters, walked 19 and also picked up a save for CSUN. He struck out a season high four batters at Bakersfield (4/29) and his longest outing was 2.2 innings at UC Irvine (4/11).
2013
Coates appeared in 20 games for the Matadors in 2013 and had one start on the mound. He did not receive a decision and had a 5.12 ERA in 19.1 innings. However, Coates recorded 24 strikeouts while walking 12 batters and had at least three strikeouts in a relief appearance on three different occasions. He had his best outing on May 18th at Cal Poly, striking out six hitters in 3.2 innings of work.
MOORPARK COLLEGE
Coates was a starting pitcher for the Raiders from 2010-12. He was named to the All-Conference Second Team as a freshman and earned a spot on the First Team as a sophomore. During his time at Moorpark, Coates helped the Raiders win the Western State Conference Championship. He earned his associate degree in 2012.
THOUSAND OAKS HIGH SCHOOL
Coates played two seasons as a varsity pitcher for the Lancers after moving up through the freshman and junior varsity ranks. He earned a starting job on the varsity team and graduated in 2010.
