Nico Garbella joined the Matadors as a junior transfer in 2014 and appeared in 36 games while making 15 starts. Used primarily in left field, Garbella recorded a .209 batting average with six RBIs and 11 runs scored. He picked up his first hit of the year at TCU (4/27) and finished the game 2-for-3 with a triple as well. Garbella added two hits in a win over Bakersfield (4/29) and went 4-for-5 with two doubles and four RBIs the next game against UC Davis (5/2). Garbella finished the season with 14 hits, including three doubles and a triple.
PALOMAR JUNIOR COLLEGE
Garbella played two years at Palomar Junior College in San Marcos, Calif., as an outfielder. He was named to the All-League First Team in both 2012 and 2013 when his team won back-to-back league championships. He hit for a .368 average and was also named a preseason All-American. Garbella earned his AA from Palomar JC in 2013 with a 3.51 GPA.
CATHEDRAL CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL
Garbella competed in three sports in his time at Cathedral Catholic High School: football, soccer and baseball. On the diamond he picked up a number of honors, including All-CIF Second Team, All-San Diego Second Team and CA All-State First Team as a senior. He was also named to the All-County First Team and the All-Western League First Team and was selected as the Team MVP. In his senior season, Garbella and the Dons won both the league and CIF championships.
