2014
Shay Maltese was the closer for the Matadors in his senior season and finished the year with seven saves. He went 2-3 on the mound with a 2.88 ERA and struck out 44 hitters in 40.2 innings. Maltese held the opposition to a .221 batting average and walked just 12 batters all year. His longest outing came in the nearly six-hour game at Loyola Marymount (3/5), when he pitched 4.0 innings and struck out a career high seven hitters.
2013
Maltese had an injury-shortened season for the Matadors in his first year at CSUN. He appeared in seven games early in the year out of the bullpen and went 0-1 with a 2.57 ERA and eight strikeouts. His longest outing of the year was 2.0 innings on March 3rd at Washington State and he had two strikeouts recorded in two separate appearances in 2013.
SANTA BARBARA CITY COLLEGE
Maltese was the starting shortstop for the Vaqueros and head coach Ryan Thompson in the 2010-11 season. While at SBCC, Maltese earned a 3.0 GPA.
UNIVERSITY OF NORTHERN COLORADO
Maltese competed as a shortstop for the Bears during the 2009-10 season before transferring to Santa Barbara City College.
MONARCH HIGH SCHOOL
Maltese graduated from Monarch High School in Louisville, Colo. in 2009 after playing shortstop for four seasons with the Coyotes. He was named to the First Team All-State as a junior and was named to the All-Colorado and preseason First Team All-America teams as a senior.
