2014
Brycen Rutherford solidified his spot in the starting rotation in his senior season at CSUN. He started off the campaign with seven consecutive quality starts, one of 10 pitchers in the country to do so. He twice pitched 7.1 innings in a game, setting a new CSUN career high, and struck out six batters in two games as well. Rutherford appeared in 15 games, made 14 starts, and finished the season with a 4-7 record and a 3.90 ERA. In 90.0 innings, he struck out 53 batters and held opponents to a .248 average.
2013
Rutherford appeared in 15 games with five starts during his first season with the Matadors. Rutherford went 1-1 on the year with a 3.05 ERA in 44.1 innings. He had 24 strikeouts and issued 17 walks while keeping the opposition to a .230 batting average. On April 30th at San Diego, Rutherford carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning and ended up allowing just one hit in 7.0 innings of work to lead the Matadors to victory in his longest outing of the year. He set a career high for strikeouts with five against CSU Bakersfield on April 1st.
RIO HONDO COLLEGE
Rutherford competed as a starting pitcher for the Roadrunners from 2010-12. He was named to the All-Conference Team in both seasons at Rio Hondo and picked up First Team All-America honors in 2011. In his final season, the Roadrunners finished as the second-ranked team in California. Rutherford earned his associate degree in Criminal Justice in 2012.
ARCADIA HIGH SCHOOL
Rutherford was a four-year letterwinner for the Apaches as a pitcher and outfielder. He earned a starting job and served as team captain as well. While competing for Arcadia High, he was named to the First Team All-League in three seasons and was league MVP in 2008. The Apaches won the Pacific League Championship in 2009 during his senior season.
